Is this the worst student section in the history of UW?

So you can't curse and you get be ass hammered drunk? That's the same rule book that every other school is playing with. Why are the student sections in New Mexico, San Diego, and Logan Utah kicking our students asses?

Why are our students quiet the majority of the time? Why do you look at a picture of the "Show" and they have multiple people in costume, interactive bobble head signs.....Our students care to much about their image than they do about watching Wyoming win and being part of something bigger.

We're missing the bus on this one. It's time that the student section wake the fuck up.

Our kids #1 probably aren't true basketball fans, may not know the game that well, time to shore that up
#2. are there just for image, you guys need to watch tomorrow nights game against USU and watch their creative, clever students and take some things away from that....it's a basketball game where you are trying to make it extremely difficult on the other team's bench, coach and players for 40 solid minutes. Let's take a page outta Logan's rule book and give it a try on Saturday and for sure on Wed against the Sheep.
if CSU is quiet I'll go outta my mind on that one!!!!

Our student section doesn't even have the fundamentals down. That has nothing to do with advanced concepts, like googling every player and coach on the opposing team to find embarrassing things to remind them about all night.

We're just asking for the students to be consistently loud, and occasionally cheer something the rest of the building might chant as well.

We don't even have the fundamentals down. The advanced concepts aren't coming this year.

start a chant the stadium is familiar with, the stadium will join in their chant.
While I agree the students need to improve, they aren't the only ones at fault. For example, I couldn't hear one other person in my section on Saturday sing cowboy Joe. Everyone just stands up, claps, and sits back down as soon as possible.

Students are lousy, but they're still the most energetic section in the arena

How do they distribute the floor tickets to the students? Aren't those first come first serve? If so, why the hell are there five students in a row without school colors behind the basket? If you can't find something gold to wear, stay home and study economics while someone that at least cares enough to wear the right color takes the floor seat.

Usually first come first serve determines that the die hards will be in the best seats. Maybe they need to turn that into a reward or some type of exclusive club for students that actually demonstrate the ability to utilize a floor seat.

If you can't wear a school color, get the fuck out of the student section and take your sorry ass back to Pakistan.

My experience in the UW Student Section:

Too many people show up just to be there. They don't get into the game.

Too many people sit on their ass (all over the arena). Someone pointed out the old grumpy people looking miserable after a Nance or Adams dunk. And it's true. It's like they don't care that Wyo is winning or losing.

A lot of students want to be cool, and not make a fool of themselves screaming and jumping and having fun.

There is no unity. There are random groups of friends cheering together, but not a united student section.

The W-Y-O cheer gets fucked up EVERY time.
It starts off way too fast and pans out in about 8 seconds. It's stupid.
My first Beaver football game up here, they did the O-S-U cheer and it was everything the W-Y-O cheer wasn't.
One part of the stadium shouts O, the next part shouts S, the last part shouts U.
O-S-U roars through Reser Stadium and Gill Collesium for minutes sometimes. It is deafening.
I remember W-Y-O being like that when I was younger.

NOT, Wyo-Wyo-WyoWyoWyowowowoooo

Same with the defense chant.
It needs to be DE-FENSE *clap/stomp clap/stomp* DE-FENSE.
It needs to be deafening. Not a sped up defense-clapclap-defense-clapclap-defense-(insert jumbled incoherent noise here).

A couple of current students should take a couple extra shots of whisky before the game, get rid of those nervs of trying to lead an entire student section and go lead the cheers and instruct the rest.

maybe like the old saying if you build it they will come, the time is now to come and be a factor...GO POKES

Ive been road tripping from Buffalo and will continue that trend this weekend.

I'm just a little frustrated and disappointed with our students. The blue hairs shouldn't be making more noise than the student section and we were against UNM. It was a weak effort by the students. No one should have to tell them that with 30 seconds left in the game, Wyoming trailing, and UNM with the ball, that the student section should be going absolutely battshit crazy: making as much noise as humanly possible.

Every time Neal took a time out, the students quit, and didn't have the foresight to get pumped up after the time out was over. The reason why Neal took the time out was crowd noise. Bring it back after the T.O. is over instead of sitting on your hands like a bunch of retired tennis fans.

Our students are either too stupid, too lazy, too cool, or too sober to care.

This thread needs to be posted in the Branding Iron. Lay down the challenge.

If the students can only find the energy to be nasty one game this year, make it next Wednesday versus CS-ewe.

Focus on coach Crybaby:

Every breath he takes,
Every move he makes,
Every bond he breaks,
Every step he takes,
Every smile he fakes,
Every claim he stakes,

Give him both barrels.......

Agreed on everything, and just for kicks since someone mentioned Darth. He's not even a student, and was the only one in that section that had a clue.

This thread makes me laugh. Every one of us thinks the student section was the best during the years we were there. Why? Because WE were there!!

That's not to say the student section doesn't need some help. But here's the thing. These guys haven't had anything to cheer for in the AA (except Women's basketball in one or two seasons) for almost 10 years. 10 years!! It's going to take a while for them to learn what it means to be loud. And creative. And obnoxious (while still having some class).

And it's probably going to take a few of us old guys showing them what that means. So, my suggestion for us old guys is to do the research, make the signs, start the chants, and get your section involved. That will eventually bleed over to the students. They've got to be shown what it means to be a good student section, and who better to teach than those who were there.

And for the athletic dept, it's time to let the students have some fun and encourage them to get there in meaningful ways. When Shyatt was first here (I think), they had a couple of contests for best sign during many of the conference games. Students would get $100 cash or free pizza or something for the most creative sign. In fact, I think that's where the "Shyatt Happens" thing came from. And some of the signs people came up with were great. They also gave out pizza to the first 100 students, and for those couple of games where people were camped out to get in line, they brought a bunch of food, hot cocoa, etc. Ipad and TV giveaways are great for getting more fans there, but if you want to entice students, you've got to do things that are meaningful for students. And I haven't seen that so far.

But the bottom line is, we'll get there. Things don't change overnight when they've been mediocre or worse for 10 damn years.

GO POKES!
