Is this the worst student section in the history of UW?

I think it is. They've got a lot to prove. I was at the game on Saturday, with the students back, and the season ticket holder sections carried that crowd. The student section seemed more concerned with being cool than making any noise or starting any chants. I don't think they understand that if they start a chant the stadium is familiar with, the stadium will join in their chant.

They're quiet. None of them, aside from Darth, has one ounce of originality. They lack energy. They lack craziness. They aren't funny. They don't do anything well and miss on just about every level.

They look like they are more concerned about their reputations than they are with UW winning.

What is the future of Wyoming? These kids are pathetic.

Luckily the older fans will drag their sad asses along until a class of freshman come in that know what the deal is.

I've given up on the UW student section. I can't remember an era of Wyoming athletics that had less support and more BORING in the student section.

I'd say this is the case at 95% of student sections across the country, not just a problem isolated to Wyoming

I could care less what happens at 95 percent of the other universities.

This student section is the weakest pile of garbage in the HISTORY OF THIS SCHOOL. You could fill the student section with Wyoming's girl scout troops and it would be more intimidating.

The student section is a steaming heap of college virgins. That's the reality.

They just got floor seats and none of them are concerned about anything but "looking cool".

I'm not gonna sugar coat but our student section has been weak for long time. I remember having problems with my fellow students being weak ass fans when I went to school (02-06 era). I'm not surprised that its gotten worse since our blackhole years. I mean I got to see the wave break with Bailey's knee. The fans weren't that great then but certainly better then this new crowd. Hell I'm happy they even showed up.

Granted I was a drunken maniac back then so I'm sure my point of view is ummm........well I'm sure I was just what our program needed!

If they are cracking down on drinking and our notorious chants well guess what? It just isn't gonna be that same kind of crazy party atmosphere when a FUCK U BYU chant rips out and students get all nuts. Shyatt is a little classier then those days too. The student section used to be pretty fucking crazy though man...damn lets not even reminisce cause it just hurts :puppy:

Its awful. If you compare this student section to those of our other championship contenders, it's not even close. This isn't even debatable because we can google youtube videos from 2000-2002 and we can watch the archives from the 85-91 era. Both of those student sections would laugh in the face of our sorry ass students.

This student section is the WORST championship contender student section in Wyoming history.

I understand they can't chant F.U. BYU, bullshit, and he's down'-he's down-he's all fucked up. That doesn't matter. Even if the students are suddenly concerned about stadium police, they can still be smart asses and make noise. They just need to be creative, funny, disruptive/intimidating to the other team, hostile to the refs, and most of all: LOUD. That's the game plan for the student section.

They aren't any of the above. The one thing they are: they are really well behaved, very proper, and extremely well mannered. It's too bad that basketball isn't a contest in manners, lack of noise, and conformity. Our student section would be kicking Americas ass. Our student section would dominate other student sections if they were visiting a museum/library twice a week.

I would be ashamed to call myself a student fan of UW right now. It's pathetic.

Yeah, i've been very disappointed with them too, i was here during the Reggie Slater years 88-93 and although it wasn't like the Fennis/Eric days, but we still held our own. What I'm looking for is creativity get behind your team and do some research on the opponent, get on a certain player from time time (Ceszar Guerrero upcoming for Fresno St and for sure Jelly donut JJ Avila at CSewe), now that I said CSewe the students are probably trying to understand that one too. lol. Anyway, upcoming is Nevada, research their school/program come up with clever things to talk about, ie AJ West...CSU should be a no brainer!! When you go to the game keep your phone in your pocket, watch the game, know that you are truly a factor, help the cheerleaders start things and just BE THERE!!!

I have sat there until this year and I'm going thru withdrawls by not being able to sit there anymore, the fans around me know, look at me like I got the plague and I've stopped the incessant profanity, lol....but I'm there to watch my Pokes, help root them on and be a part of the noise factor. If I wanted to go to Library I'd do so, it's a basketball game!!! Cmon fans and students let's give em all you got on Saturday and for sure Wed. Feb 4 CSU!!! Many watch a few other games around the country and listen to their fans/students for a few ideas, just a thought!!!

I think it all started when they started banning Branding Irons at the games. The BI would put racks of those outside the arena and you'd grab a few on the way in and rattle the crap out of them while the opposing team was introduced. Then you'd ball them up and throw them on the court when the Pokes were introduced. The cheerleaders and Wildfire would take 60 seconds to clean them up. it was a great atmosphere. then they started not only kicking you out for drinking, but would ban you for the whole season. Then they cracked down on profanity, banning you for that, too.

Give these fan's some advice on how to run the student section. Most of them weren't alive in 1988. Many of them were in diapers in the 2000 season. The athletics department has turned into a bunch of dicks this year. Some of this is instinct. Much of it is learned. This is new territory for them all.

Fuck that....lol, we used to have a metaphor for us Wyoming fans, Despicable Wyoming Basketball fans, i'd love to see it come back

agreed they are young, but they can do some research watch some old clips, I'd love to have a Crowd Cheering class 1 hour b4 the game, I'd be more than happy to teach/help it along...lol

What a joke. Seriously. I don't know what to think of this administration any more.

So you can't curse and you get be ass hammered drunk? That's the same rule book that every other school is playing with. Why are the student sections in New Mexico, San Diego, and Logan Utah kicking our students asses?

Why are our students quiet the majority of the time? Why do you look at a picture of the "Show" and they have multiple people in costume, interactive bobble head signs.....Our students care to much about their image than they do about watching Wyoming win and being part of something bigger.

We're missing the bus on this one. It's time that the student section wake the fuck up.

Probably because New Mexico and SDSU have had good bball teams for the last few years. Our student section has no idea what to do yet. Hell, they may not even understand or care about the magnitude yet. At least they are starting to show up.

Our kids #1 probably aren't true basketball fans, may not know the game that well, time to shore that up
#2. are there just for image, you guys need to watch tomorrow nights game against USU and watch their creative, clever students and take some things away from that....it's a basketball game where you are trying to make it extremely difficult on the other team's bench, coach and players for 40 solid minutes. Let's take a page outta Logan's rule book and give it a try on Saturday and for sure on Wed against the Sheep.
if CSU is quiet I'll go outta my mind on that one!!!!

I stood in the front row of the student section for the Davis, Bailey years and those student sections were pretty great.(shameless boasting on why I am know what im talking about..haha)

I think the ones on the floor are doing fine and it looks like a lot of fun to be down there but the problem(like a student has already mentioned in another thread) is the split between the kids on the floor ond the other section. So I think the most important people have to be the kids in the front of the upper section. If they stand and getinto the game it will force the others behind them to stand and get involved as well.

I have said it before and I will say it again: I do not think UW did itself any favors by hiding the students behind the backboard with the new arena configuration.

I always thought that one of the great failings of programs like CSewe was that they marginalized the student section by moving them as far away from the center-court as possible. Sure there are some floor seats/stands back there, but for the most part the students are now relegated to the seats that were among the last to sell out back in the day. In fact, I thought that allowing some students to get pretty good seats was one thing that UW did better than other programs. Unfortunately, UW has decided to follow the herd of other Mid-Major programs in that regard.

When I was in Laramie (1993-97) we could get seats that were close to the half court line where we could influence the noise level on the court during both halves of the game. We could also see the game from a good angle instead of only from the proverbial cheap seats.

I have a question: What percentage of home basketball games are scheduled either during times when class is not in session or during finals week? When I was in school, they had a nasty problem of having the last home games land during Spring Break.

In any case, the whole system seems structured to prevent student engagement rather than to encourage it.
