or does Jonathan Barnes, kinda, remind me of a young raw Eric Leckner, bad hands at 1st but maybe in the future something to build towards, imagine him and Naughton, we may have our own version of Twin Towers, we'll see

It is you.

Leckner certainly was a bit awkward to start out, but showed decent improvement year over year over year. And he nailed my girlfriend. But I also nailed his. Not sure why that matters though, but what the hell, it is the Christmas season, and my little bed hopping Costa Rican saw ghosts.

Barnes does have tons of potential. With his size and mobility he can be a role player on a good team no matter what. If he improves some things he will be an impact player for the next 2 and a half years

I really liked Barnes and hoped he would develop, but I've hit the point where I see him as an athlete playing basketball. He really needs to play more recklessly and throw his body around like a Dennis Rodman because he simply isn't very skilled. He needs to develop a mean streak and stop being that nice home-schooled kid if he wants to step his game up to another level.

I agree. I am ok with his rock hands and his 1/2 step lag because that stuff will come. Anyone remember DC his first two years? He couldn't catch a pass from Adams if his life depended on it. What drives me nuts is Barnes is usually the biggest, stoutest dude on the court and gets thrown around like he's Dalton. That to me is unacceptable. The dude is a freak and needs to start using his size until his finesse game improves. Be strong big man!

How did Eric taste?

Someone needs to give Barnes a $100 dollar bill if he gets a flagrant foul. Maybe that'll light a fire within him and give him a taste for BLOOD. Barnes can be our enforcer.

I watched the Longest Yard this weekend, I didn't realize before that Barnes played a black dude...

Haha just kidding... I think he can still develop a more aggressive play style.

Interesting assumption. You'll have to ask Eric how Eric tastes I guess.

And FYI - I didn't put my tongue in her holiest of holies, but I did dump a nice sized load in her.

Umm...No. I was in Elementary School during the Leckner/Dembo years, so while I have vivid memories of those teams I don't necessarily trust my evaluations (they were stars to me at that age). However, a quick look at Leckner's production shows he averaged 15.8 ppg as a sophomore on a NIT team and 8.4 ppg as a freshman on a mid-pack team more comparable to this years Pokes. I can't imagine Barnes ever approaching 15 ppg.

The closest comparison in my mind is much more recent, and that's Adam Waddell. Barnes reminds a little bit of pre-injury Waddell. Adam was never a great rebounder (except for one crazy game against Utah), because he lacked the quick jumping ability and length to rebound outside of his area. He was a pretty good straight-line athlete, but not bouncy. Barnes is similar in that he is certainly not a stiff and has the ability to get up and down the court and finish at the rim, but lacks the fast-twitch athleticism required for elite rebounding and rim protection. Waddell was more skilled, but he had much more background with the game prior to UW and a redshirt year. As Barnes matures I see him being a solid role player.

I guess those things were all true of Leckner as well, but he was very skilled offensively.

I actually kind of think by next year Naughton will be starting and Barnes will be his backup.

Thanks so much for sharing the inner workings of your mind, but that is a lot more than we wanted to know about you.

Barnes may end up being a good player for the pokes. Unfortunately for him we are in a different era. The 3 point shot has made the big man less relevant. Moreover, as much as I respect Shyatt and I do, Jim Brandenburg was probably the best big man developer we have ever had. Also, Brandenburg coached at a time when big men had there back to the basket. He turned Chris Engler into a solid center and helped him collect NBA pay checks. Eric Leckner had a nice touch, but Brandenburg was able to instll a nastiness in him as a rebounder that I do not see from anyone on our squad. Leckner averaged about 8 rebounds a game, but he got every rebound near the hoop. The tough ones if not the long hustle rebounds.

Brandenburg was good at developing bigs, but so it Shyatt. From his first class he developed a 2* skinny kid into a first round draft pick. He turned a raw, high school wide receiver into a player who is collecting a paycheck playing basketball.

Leckner was a good player because he had that soft touch and an unstoppable hook/turnaround shot around the basket.

He also was really hard to move out of the paint / rebounding position once he got up to 240 pounds. That happend by the time he was junior, i believe. That whole team got big fast.
