Interview with Sundance Wicks

I'm planning on doing more coach interviews over the summer. I've got a goal of interviewing the entire men's basketball coaching staff. If there are any burning questions you all would like me to ask please send them over!

Has Wicks, etc., named a GM replacement?

Good interview Bryan! Still a bit scary that even Coach realizes that we don't have the budget to REALLY compete at this level. Not sure how that gets solved. Just not enough money to make both Football AND Basketball successful at this level. Realistically will have to ultimately choose which program bring more bang for the buck. It's the reality we live in....

Great interview, Bryan. I like Sunny and so much want to see him succeed. I think he will always be playing behind the 8-ball due to a lack of NIL funding and having to basically build a new team every season. Something in that interview that stood out was he realizes they need to take advantage of 7220. It should be more up tempo next season which will be more entertaining to watch.

I have maintained this the entire time Burman has been AD. He has emphasized football over basketball and it has resulted in 3 conference winning seasons for the basketball program with a conference winning percentage of 37% over that period. Wicks won't be allowed to comment on this any further i predict.

Wyoming basketball had the chance to be a national brand back in the late 80s but blew it by not retaining Brandenburg. We had some good teams since than but nothing that could match the national profile of those teams. Still I have long thought it is far easier and cheaper to build a great basketball program than football.

I would argue that we still had the opportunity to become a national brand in basketball when Mclain was here. The talent we had was incredible for the budgets we were dealing with back then. Football ate all of the money and BB was second fiddle. I remember when the Dome of Doom was real...that place was packed and then some during the early 2000s

I suppose it's fun to speculate about what might have been during the old world of college sports, but none of that matters anymore. All you need to do now is get the money together to pay good money to players, and they'll play here and take you into the tournament, even deep into the tournament.

If we won't do that, there's no shame in that, but it just means we'll continue to piddle around on the lower rungs of things. The coaching or stadium seating decisions of 15 years ago are irrelevant now.
