Quite the offer list there. At 5'7 180lbs, I think he's being looked at as either a slot receiver or a RB. And according his profile there, he's a speedster. Maybe the next Robert Herron at slot? Small, but incredibly fast.

I think we have two chances at this kid - slim and none, especially being up against the likes of Michigan, Utah, Washington, WSU plus 10 more on the list. I guess one never knows until one offers, but I'd bet zero chance this kid ever wears brown and gold.

I definitely would not say we have no chance. Why would he be taking a trip to Laramie if he isn't realistically considering us? All the other guys we've offered that have Michigan, Missouri, Utah offers etc. that aren't visiting - these guys we have little shot of getting. I would say we definitely have a shot at Vigilant.

I would say about 30% chance at Vigilant, and 40% chance at Dawson. Both percentages go up after Sunday.

If I were 18, and a talented football player, I would take every last trip offered by every single college, just for the travel experience alone. Taking an all expenses paid trip to all 15 colleges is a pretty cool thing. Don't be fooled by a kid taking a visit, many times it is just that, a kid taking a visit. If he signs with Wyoming I'll happily eat a little crow, but I'm pretty sure I'm safe from that fate.

I'd say we have a <7% chance of getting Vigilant (1 out of 15), but hey, I've been wrong before.

I could be wrong here, but an all expenses paid visit like you are describing is considered an "official visit". Recruits are limited to five "official visits" during their senior year.

This. I thought you only get 5 visits?

Yeah official visits are limited.

So he is burning one of his tickets on a trip to Laramie.

Some coaches in areas that are "less desired" often say "just get the kid in for a visit and he'll want to play here".
This could be the 'in' the staff needed.

Some recruits already know where they want to go, and just use the recruiting trips as little vacations and chances to travel and see other places. I remember reading something in the last year or so about a HS recruit stating he knew he wasn't going somewhere, but still went on a visit because it was a free trip and he could get some swag.

Yeah, I stand corrected. So we just increased our odds to 20%. I'm still not going to hold my breath on this one, especially since the kid lives fairly close to SDSU (who happen to be in the MWC championship game today).

In my opinion, getting a high level recruit like this to come on an official visit to Laramie is a very good sign.

I remember DC saying that something like 80%-90% of the recruits that came on official visits to UW eventually committed. Of course, that percentage would certainly decline as the level of the recruit rises and the offers we are competing against are from much more formidable schools.

That being said, we rarely even get recruits of this level to come on an official visit to Laramie. Unfortunately, we need 15-20 of these caliber of recruits visiting in any given year, not 1 or 2. Hopefully we will see a trend towards that through the remainder of recruiting this year and into next year. I'd feel far better about the direction of the program if that were the case.

Does he have a former teammate at Wyo?

Maybe he just wants to get away from his home state?

Not sure what his motivation would be.....he's got some pretty good P5 schools offering him, so I don't know what he would be considering in Laramie. Maybe the HATC? He's pretty fast, so maybe looking at track as well. Just not sure what makes Laramie more attractive than a place like Michigan, or Utah, or Washington or WSU, other than the possibility of a lot of playing time early on in his collegiate career.

Playing time. Relationship with coaches. Possibility of becoming a star. Big fish in smaller pond. Knowing that he'll get noticed if he plays and stands out. Tons of reasons to play here
