This year I'm going to go watch a cousin's son play his small town high school football (as a QB and LB). Well, that and some other things got me thinking of the past high school football days that I experienced in Texas.
I was wondering if any of y'all enjoyed the book Friday Night Lights (1990) by H. G. Bissinger or the movie Friday Night Lights (2004) with Billy Bob Thornton because I grew up in that "real live" football culture. So did ya?
Also, I found some stuff on youtube of games I attended.
I guess I will try to link some with some explanation added.
Of course, I don't expect anyone to watch every second or even care.
I just feel sentimental lately.
And time flies!!!!
I grew up with (then) Texas powerhouse program Plano (Blair Burns). Then Plano East came along for varsity in '82. Then Plano West came along in 2000 and by that time IT WAS NOT the same culture. From '65 to '94 Plano won 7 state championships playing tough schedules.
In '86 Plano won state with a 14-2 record. W 2, L 2, then won 12.
This is what it was like at a pep rally the day before the semifinal at Texas Stadium. Plano won over L.D. Bell 28-21. The next week on Dec. 20 '86 Plano's running option beat the run-n-shoot of La Marque at Texas A&M to win state. It was fun!

I hope that worked.
