I'm confident we can beat SDSU at home, regardless of UNLV, EMU.....

1. SDSU has yet to play a team that will finish the season with a winning record.
2. Wyoming's losses have all came on the road.
3. Laramie is going to be inhospitable for Californians on Saturday, unless they're the ones playing for us.
4. Pumphrey filled the bulletin boards with dumb ass comments earlier this week.

The big key for me, and the reason why I thought we would lose at both EMU and UNLV:

5. We can't stop the read option from a spread offense. We've stopped Nebraska's rushing attack. We've stopped CSU's rushing attack. We've stopped AFA rushing attack. Teams that run power with a fullback haven't had much success rushing against Wyoming. Teams that run the read option out of a spread, with a qb that's a threat to run it, have rushed at will on us.

I don't see SDSU suddenly changing to a spread read option offense this week. They're going to line it up and try to smash it down our throats.

This is smash mouth vs. smash mouth on Saturday, and I'm confident high altitude smash mouth is better than flatlander Californian smash mouth.

We can beat SDSU. Hopefully, we will.

We can always count on you for some heartfelt optimism. If we can be good on 3rd down (on both offense and defense), then we have a good shot.

If our lines (both sides of the ball) can get some push going early, we can definitely win this one. If we struggle to generate any pressure and if we can't wrap up our tackles, though, they'll find a way to burn us similar to UNLV.

Personally, I hope we hit Pumphrey hard (and wrap up), often, and behind the line of scrimmage.

Sometimes we just need some heart felt optimism. :D

This is a good team, with a chance to win a title. Last weekend sucked, but it's not over for these Pokes. We still have a ton to play for and a good chance of beating SDSU. Those who stayed could still be champions THIS year.

I agree though. If we can't tackle, we're fucked.

I like the match-ups in this one and I didn't like the match-ups for EMU or UNLV.

The wind is likely to be near 15 miles an hour, which makes it much more difficult for SDSU qb's to throw. Their qb isn't a threat to run the ball, it's senior day, Pumphrey pissed off Brian Hill and the oline earlier this week, their fans have been filling message boards with anti-Wyoming garbage for the last five years(before that they sucked too bad to say anything about anyone) and their defense hasn't played an offense as good as ours all year.

I'm confident we will win this one. Our seniors are going to come out the gates pissed off and ready to go. The Pokes are going to rebound in a big way.

I agree with all of the above. We overlooked UNLV big time and still had a chance to win. We tried to play EMU with only one page of our playbook and still could have won that one too. I believe we will come out focused and ready to play this week.

Here's hoping that Vigen comes up with a solid gameplan to keep that SDSU defense off-balance. I think the WYO offense will be ready.

My big concern is how a defense that got shredded against UNLV can rebound psychologically in one week to give a respectable performance and, thus, gives the Pokes a chance to win at The WAR. We'll probably know after one quarter on Saturday who showed up.

HUGE GAME.

Up to this point, I have been VERY impressed with Vigen and his ability to call the right plays at the right time. He's been one of our biggest assets. I don't see that trend being any different this week. I look for him to dial up a few things that catch their highly regarded 3-3-5 off guard, as well as keeping it balanced. LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Junky you coming down???

Not this week. I'm still struggling to find work. We don't have the money to afford it and the wifeys college is kicking her ass.

I'll be watching on t.v. though, and sending all my good mojo with voodoo dolls and lucky hats. :D

I like the way we match up against teams that use tight ends and full backs. We can stack the box and make teams beat us with the pass. We're good against power rushing attacks.

If I'm Stanard, I'm going to dare their qb to pass the ball, especially with a 15-20 mile an hour wind, and a wind chill below freezing. I would put eight in the box and bring all kinds of outside pressure to force Pumphrey between the tackles.

I was talking to CarbonPoke and he had some very good observations. SDSU has a fast defensive front that over-pursues just like Boise. He thinks, and I agree, that our tight ends and fullbacks will be primed for a big game. He thinks Austin Conway might have some big plays catching them over-pursuing. He's right. The Cowboys can catch them for some big plays. Hollister could have another huge game.

Turnovers are going to be huge. Cold hands lead to dropped balls, fumbles, and bad passes. If we can be disciplined with ball control, I'm sure SDSU is good for a couple of turnovers.

Psychologically, I think we'll have the edge. It's senior night, we haven't lost at home all year, and our seniors are super hungry to fulfill the Bohl promise: "Those that stay will become champions." Anyone that's ever read a MWC message board knows that the majority of SDSU fans, admin, coaches, and players think Wyoming is holding them back. They feel like they're better than us because they play in San Diego at a school with half the athletics achievements Wyoming has. Pumphrey just called out Hill and the Wyoming offensive line. I think we'll be as sharp and mentally prepared as we have been all season, including Boise.

SDSU has been avoiding the conversation about the difficulty of Laramie Wyoming all week. Their qb can't even say the word wind. Rocky has been spitting out some line about how altitude isn't a factor because of t.v. timeouts. Their whole team has been bragging about how good they are in hostile environments and bad weather. They're ignoring reality and are over-confident that Laramie won't effect them on November the 19th. They all have the South Alabama meltdown in the back of their minds from the last time they were ranked. They've got a lot of reasons to mentally collapse if things start to go wrong.

I really feel good about this game.

You make some good points. I really hope the tight ends and fullbacks play a major part. Our tight ends have been extremely productive when used properly in the passing game.

If this coaching staff is worth its salt -- and I think it is -- then they'll have these kids foaming at the mouth to redeem themselves and play lights out tomorrow. The air was sucked out of the room with that loss last week, but the Pokes will still be in control with a win here. HUGE GAME.

By the way, I know how you love to tangle with the undesireables from SUDS, but I wouldn't pay attention to anything that fanbase spews. And good luck in finding work soon. I think (much) better days are ahead.

Thanks Pokes Fan. I really think we're going to beat SDSU. It will require all of our effort, and an entire team performance. That's exactly what I'm expecting.

I think we'll see Wyoming's best game of the year one week after our worst game of the year.

I hope you are right Cowboy Junky. I will buy you a drink at the Oregon game next year if you are right.... :thumb:

Yep, that's what most people that know me will say, Golly Gee Willikers, that guy is as innocent as the driven snow. :D

It took me 20 years to learn how big of an asshole I am when I'm drunk, but I learned it. Not coincidentally, I get in way less fights, police trouble, or screaming contests on funnel cake than I do on Makers and coke.

I think optimism, or at least excitement, is warranted despite the awful defensive performance last week.

SDSU is good, no doubt about it, and they deserve to be favored, but the Pokes have shown the ability to compete with very good teams, particularly at home. We have a balanced offense with both power/ball control capabilities and big play capabilities. We have a special teams group that can make a positive contribution and we are playing the first Senior Day in a long time with a conference title still on the line.

Pokes will need to play a very clean game and Allen will have to make good decisions. There will be a lot on his shoulders because SDSU is not going to provide openings for Brian Hill. My guess is he will be contacted at or behind the line of scrimmage on most of his carries. Now, that doesn't stop him from carrying 3 guys and gaining some yardage, but they will be keying on him and they have the personnel to beat our blockers. Allen will have to make plays and do so without turning the ball over.

Another CarbonPoke theory I tend to agree with: we're going to see a lot of 22 personnel tomorrow, sometimes with Austin Conway as the wide-out. That formation gives us the best chance to exploit the 3-3-5(nickle) defense. Austin Conway will punish you for over-pursuing. Two tights and a fullback will test SDSU's smaller, faster front seven physically.

Boise and SDSU have similar front sevens, although they line-up in different formations. They're both aggressive, stunt heavy, and fast. Hollister, fullbacks, and the wheel route could give SDSU a lot of trouble.

We really could use a fast start in this one. If we can make SDSU play catch up, and force them to pass the ball, our chances of winning really go up.

I think there's a chance that we can gash SDSU's defense with a physical running game. They haven't faced a team as physical as us all year.
