IF we end up in the Arizona Bowl...

We will play Arkansas State. It's been confirmed.

If we do play them, it'll be the first time the Pokes played them since 1990 when we beat them 34-27 in Laramie. I was at that game and still have the game program.

If the Arizona Bowl has ties with the MWC how could the Pokes end up there? The MWC has more teams eligible than bowl ties and the Pokes are at the bottom of the list.

It's possible...

Other bowl games for which the mw is backup for, get a priority pick of mw teams over all the mw bowls except Vegas. So for instance, for the cheeze-it bowl, the mw is backup to either big12 or pac12 or maybe both if they can't fill it. If the cheeze-it bowl became available due to a pac12 or big12 not being able to fill it, Vegas bowl gets first pick, then cheeze-it bowl, then rest of mw bowls. Cheeze-it would choose a better record mw team, and scenarios like this are how the Arizona bowl which gets last pick in mw might get us. But we need a lot of help of higher mw teams going to other locations for this to happen

Unfortunately your scenario with the Cheez-It bowl likely won't happen. As you mentioned the MWC fills the spot for either the Big XII or Pac-12. The Big XII sends their #6 team, they have 7 eligible, so even if Oklahoma goes to the semifinals, they will still be able to send a team. The Pac-12 sends their #7 team.Since they have 7 eligible, the only way this could happen is if they send someone to the seminfinals...which ain't happening.

As for the Arizona bowl, it does not get the last pick. The Vegas bowl picks first, IF we send someone to Cheez-it, they pick 2nd, and then the Potato, Hawaii, Arizona, and New Mexico all pick at the same time, no one gets preference over the other.

sadly seeing just about every projection having us on the outside looking in. Hoping for a Marshall win over VA Tech to open up one more slot for a 6-6 team to slide in (us)

Yeah, I've pretty much resigned myself to us not getting a bowl. Had we actually beaten Hawai'i, things would look VERY different, but that obviously didn't happen, and now here we are.

Arkansas State would've been an interesting matchup as well. They certainly don't look super amazing for an 8-4 team. They almost lost to UNLV and got gashed by them on the ground.

Agree I think the scenario it would take is ucf losing to memphis and Washington St moving up a couple more spots from 13 in the final rankings to get an at large to a new years 6 bowl.

Then winner of boise/Fresno gets new years 6, loser gets Vegas. Probably Utah St in the pac12 bowl, because under this scenario with two pac12 teams in the new years 6 a slot of their lower bowls opens. Hawaii in Hawaii. SDSU, Nevada, wyo in some combination of potato, New Mexico and Arizona bowls.

But I agree those two possibilities both happening are very unlikely and most likely we will be missing a bowl game.

Also, at this point, I think UCF is going to be the group of 6 rep no matter what happens on Saturday. I don't think a 2-loss MWC champ passes UCF with 1 or 0 losses. Unless the group of 6 rep HAS to be the conference champ.

First of all, I thought they had to be a champ, but I've just heard that, so who really knows..

Secondly, depending on how their last game goes, if it's a blowout loss, I doubt that they will put a UCF team to get sacrificed to a P5 without their QB. It's not their fault and it's bad luck, but injuries are part of the game and their team would be fundamentally worse than during the season.

Must be a conference champion. UCF is out with a loss.

Thanks for the clarification...in that case, looks like we are all Memphis fans this Saturday.

What about Norfolk State (4-6) vs. Liberty (5-6)?

If Liberty loses, will that potentially open up a slot somewhere?

Liberty is not bowl eligible until 2019 due to their transition from FCS to FBS, unless they have at least 6 eligible wins and there are not enough bowl-eligible teams to fill all the spots. In other words, we don't need to worry about Liberty.
