I think some are missing the point...

While a majority of the content in the report just released was information or feelings that people were already aware of...the facts are that NOBODY was ever talking about them - PARTICULARLY the esteemed members of the press who cover the POKES programs.

Where was Gags, or Schmoldt/Fredrickson previously, with exposes on what they felt should be done to upgrade athletics, listing for their readers their own thoughts, their own frustrations, their own feelings about a lack of accountability and a culture of just trying hard not being good enough?

People are missing the point that this stuff is now out there for everyone to see and to dissect, it's not the elephant in the room that nobody wishes to talk about anymore.

To simply claim that the info contained in the report was something we all knew prior, and therefore a waste of time, is a narrow minded thought process of limited acumen when assessing this situation.

People are now engaged, the report has taken a huge flashlight and pointed it on the UW Athletics program, forcing the University, the politicians, the supporters, and the fans, to collectively take an interest in re-shaping UW Football & Basketball in a way that provides the state with the kinds of competitive teams people have been clamoring for for years now.

Something everyone already knew?

No, something that now everyone is aware of under the parameters of an entirely new set of demands and expectations.

Well said Doc. I've been talking about the funding for years and people are like - ho hum, it's the way it always has been and it isn't going to change. Change is what we need - from the governor's office all the way down to the assistant coaches.

Reporters are meant to report the news, not use their position for their own agenda. That's bad journalism. No one ever does that sort of thing here in the US of A.

Well, both Gagliardi and Vorel are columnists as well as beat reporters...they are given quite a bit of latitude to express their opinions with their respective newspapers...they should exercise this privilege a bit more with matters such as this one...in my opinion.

That's exactly right. The more I think about it the more I think the primary purpose of this report is ammunition, and the primary target is the state legislature and donors.

and although we know we're never going to be National title contenders, we want to at least matter in our own conference, win some conference championships and it can happen here with the right funding, guidance and especially with a good group of Coaches, paid fairly well for what they do here at UW. I know we can't keep them forever but in this day and age its all about what have you won for me lately. I'm ready to see results, afterall the facilities have been provided it's time to win the MWC for a change.

In defense of the Wyoming media, the UW athletic department and fans, better funding for the athletic department has been discussed for years. Additionally, UW has taken several runs at the Wyoming legislature for more money. They've received some extra funding, but the general most favorable response the legislature has given the athletic department is "if you want more money, facility upgrades, etc. go find donors and we'll match what you can raise." This has worked to some extent but doesn't get us over the hump. I'm hoping Sternberg, Burman and the Board of Trustees can go to the legislaure and use the report as an independent indication that UW is not blowing smoke when they requestmore money. Not sure if the report will help strengthen the argument tho.

As a side note, not to long ago there was a member of the Board of Trustees from Jackson named Jorgenson (I think) that was very anti-athletics and I think he did a lot to sabatoge any attempt by the athletic dept. for more money. I could be wrong on that, but I do remember the he was considered a big asshole by many Wyoming fans.

Yes. Want to take a guess where his allegiances were?

I have seen discussions about funding elsewhere and it seemed interesting that those discussions focused on opportunities to increase funding using avenues that are forced collections from the source such as student fees and legislative appropriations of tax money.

I don't remember him being Mormon but it wouldn't surprise me.

I found it interesting that according to what I heard via radio Burman took exception to the standing for mediocrity mentioned in the report, but I think that actually starts with him. He gave contract extensions to coaches who had never competed for a championship, let alone won one, or had 2 winning season in a row... to me that is accepting mediocrity by the AD.

I have met quite a few UW trustees that are complete assholes. Some even from Laramie (2 in particular).

And who was the anti-baseball smartass douche trustee from a few years ago? He fit the mold. Joe Biden and his smart-assed laughing responses in the VP debate reminded me of this prick quite a bit.
