It's because they have been very good the last few years at manipulating the RPI while not playing anyone super difficult. It's something Miles was doing it when he was there and rode that success to his job at Nebraska. In the past, they have been able to construct a schedule that in reality isn't super difficult, but still boosts their RPI; difference is that this year, the committee looked past the RPI numbers and looked at their SOS and other factors.
