I keep hearing running the football is the key to this game

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't their weakness from last season stopping the pass? And isn't our teams strength great wide receivers? I understand Brett likely won't be throwing the ball but I would think Kirkigard or the frosh can throw to wide open receivers. I'm not expecting a 300 yard passing performance from them but I fully expect us to throw the ball a fair amount and if we don't have more passing yards then rushing yards I would be surprised. I do expect a good running game too but overall the passing game is the spread offense bread and butter.

I'm honestly expecting a Texas State type of dominance today from our defense.

Running is key to CAL POLY . Poke defense will have to be better than last two games to contain it, which they may not. So that leaves the burden on the offense to put up some points. But that's just my observation.

I think the small sample of what our defense can do was against a two fairly decent offenses with pretty good offensive lines. An avg FCS school shouldn't be in the same ballpark as those two offenses so I think we will look drastically improved.

I'm not sure I would call Cal Poly average and we sure as shit better not be overlooking them that is just my opinion though.

I hear you, I guess I just look at a 6-5 record last year as an indication that they are a middle of the road FCS team. A lot can change from year to year. Hopefully the pokes come out and show how good they can be.

I'm more looking at San Diego Toreros were 9-2 (7-1) last year. I'm not sure who all they lost or what but a team that was 9-2 last year starting the season against Cal Poly who was 6-5 (3-1) last year. Cal Poly beat them 41-14, I have learned just enough about both teams to be worried by our first 2 games defense.

Our team strength is starting QB. Great wide receivers is a bit of a stretch. Wide receivers who may have had a decent to good game in their career maybe, great, not yet. Having said that, I think we will get 300 yards passing vs CP.

I have seen alot of great plays by our WR this year. A great qb has to have good-great receivers in order to pass the way we have this year.

That's more than a little optimistic. If you think that was "great", I'd love to hear what you thought about WRs like Marcus Harris, Ryan Yarborough, etc. WR play outside Herron has been below average so far.

I guess it depends on what you consider great. I will admit that these guys are not going to be NFL pro-bowlers or that hey may be NFL material. I will say that Rufran's 3 catches for 102 yards was very impressive to me. I think our receivers have really stepped up so far and played great.

Herron last year everyone talked about he could be better, In game one of this year he proved to me he worked his ass off during off season and is better. I can't wait to see more games with him and smith hooking up and having McNeil on the opposite side I think we have a very solid receiving core.

Exactly what I expected. Poke defense NOT better. Offense not putting up needed points. D coach totally in over his head, not knowing how to defend an AFA type offense.
As pointed out by others, DC too stubborn to admit he erred in his D selection and won't change things mid-steram (not that it would make much difference this late). So it looks like this could well be a wasted year for the Pokes.
