I got somewhat wrapped up in the FB recruiting this year...

And then I realized, and came to my senses again, that it is awfully damn tough to tell who is going to contribute to the UW football team in 3 or 4 years from now...based on some blurred video and stats of kids that are mostly in their mid-senior year in HIGH SCHOOL.

Are people that hung over from the sub-par bowl, and that bored of the NBA that so much focus has to be put on signing day? Although it is kind of "fun" to follow...it is actually worthless. And not just at UW, but at every school, and with damn near every 4* and 5* kid.

I think there will be a few guys in this class that will see the field as soon as next year. Ghaali Muhammad might be our most underrated recruit. I could see him filling the spot voided by the departure of Quincy Rogers. Chris McNeill is our best recruit at WR. I think Bolling and Stewart are both allright receivers, but the guys who see the field beyond them is wide open. McNeill might see some playing time if he impresses the coaching staff in fall practice. TJ Smith might also see some time at TE. I expect Salyards to get a lot of playing time as well, but I don't think any of the other current tight ends really fit Christensen's offense. Of course, both Robert Benjamin and Austyn Carta-Samuels have a very good shot at starting at arguably the most important position on the football field. If Benjamin would have been here for spring ball, I would have bet money he would have been under center to start the season. Since he won't be, I think it will be a three way race between Sween, ACS, and Benjamin. I also expect to see ACS see a gignificant amount of snaps throughout the season even if he isn't the starter.

I would think that Samuels would redshirt given the depth at QB. I expect the QB race to be between Barry, Benjamin, maybe Sween. I don't see Stutz and Crum sticking around.

WYCowboy:

I would say Barry is out of the picture as far as next year is concerned and maybe forever. I think most of the hype about him came from a lot of people looking for anyone to step up and be a savior last season. I've watched him in practices and he had no business being on the field last year. Unless he has significantly improved, I would say he doesn't stand a chance. Just my opinion though.

MrTitleist:

I would be really surprised if ACS is redshirted next season. I'll give it a 10% chance that he redshirts next season. Granted, I've only been able to see limited film on the guy, but I think he ends up as one of the top 3 QB's when fall camp is all said and done. Christensen went after this guy with the full intention that he will lead the Pokes sooner than later. This all should be very interesting.

True freshman don't start too often.. plus, with DC bringing Benjamin in I figure he's buying time for Samuels.

Adam Barry was by far the best quarterback in last year's spring game. He had the most zip and accuracy than any of the other quarterbacks. He might of looked bad in practice after he knew he didn't have any chance to play last year, but I came away extremely impressed with him after the spring game and that was when he was throwing to 3rd string receivers. If it wasn't for Glenn's loyalty to upperclassmen, Barry may have been playing most of the year.

It is way too early to tell who's going to be QB. We'll see who comes out on top after spring ball, then there should be a real battle through the fall. I would say that it is between Barry, Sween, ACS, and Benjamin.

I think I may have lost it or drank it away, but I don't remember Barry doing anything in the Spring game last year. In fact, I don't remember him even taking a snap, or even "being there". What I do remember is that Stutz shined above everyone else (at least statistically)...he completed a couple of 60+ yarders off the back foot type of thing in the IPF.

You sure Barry played last spring, and you are not confusing him with Stutz? I could be wrong, but I was there, and again, don't remember Barry taking any snaps...it was all Dax, Stutz, Sween & Hetrick. And the offense was a pathetic mess.

It wasn't in the IPF it was in the War, so maybe it wasn't the spring game. Maybe I am thinking about a fall scrimmage, the final one? I remember Stutz chucking a deep one that was somewhat of a miraculous catch. Barry wasn't great statistically (there were a ton of dropped balls by the receivers), but he looked like the best QB to me, heck of arm with pretty good accuracy from 5 to 25 yards out. I don't remember him throwing anything deep.

I might be losing my mind...I went back and looked at the fall scrimmage stats, and Barry only showed up once and was 3 for 3 for 26 yards. Maybe that was the scrimmage I was thinking about, I definitely remember him looking pretty good in one of the scrimmages last year.

looking at DC's track record as an OC, man his QB's threw the ball a lot! Whoever starts at QB better be ready to throw the ball 500+ times next season.
