I am really worried about this...

Boise and AF jumping to the Big East. Now what? Where do we go from here? This is REALLY, REALLY serious. The talk and speculation of us being left behind are now happening. Now I see that people are writing about us adding the old WAC members that we left several yrs ago and possibly adding schools like UTSA?? REALLY?? REALLY??? Sure makes me want to keep giving my money to the CJC and making trips down to Laramie to watch that kind of competition!!!

What it actually does is really pisses me off!!! Our program has not been good... an occasional decent season... but nothing close to where we wanted it for the last 20 yrs or so. Ran into the ground by really bad coaching ie: Dimel, Vic, etc...

So who is to blame? State of Wyoming??? This state has a lot more money than most if not all states in America!! Why not use it on our only university??? and studies all over the place have shown a correlation between winning football programs and enrollments in those universities.

Mark my words... if all this goes down and we are left either in left over WAC or if we, gawd help us, have to drop down to 1-AA.... enrollment at UW will drop greatly and it will happen in the next 4 or 5 yrs. Somebody better do something.

Kind of a doom's day scenario, but IMO, a trip to UTSA isn't a bad thing.. big stadium, heart of Texas (where our recruiting happens), easy win over a new team. However, the MW is stable as per the CUSA/MW merger.. however, the top teams from both conferences appear to be leaving..

I got a feeling we'll be O.K. Our big win over San Diego State may have saved our asses!!!!

Okie.. how is beating SDSU suppose to save us?

Easy. The Big East wants more teams out west to appease AFA and Boise. Now BYU will be joining in about a year. Now the Big East is talking to both Memphis and Temple about joining as the 13th football school. My guess: they'll invite Memphis for all-sports. My guess that we'll be asked to join to save travel $$$ for BYU, AFA, and Boise.....and since more than likely we'll be going bowling again for the 2nd time in three years......

Who the fuck cares what Boise does. They had a sip of piss in the MWC and now are gone. AFA is AFA. Lots of history, but it isn't like a bunch of 4 place finishes would be enough to get them the golden ticket, but it is what it is. That golden ticket might be only a piece of trash when all the big Big East schools bale.

And the only thing that could have helped Wyoming is if Wyoming had 5x the current population. Boise is invited for the chance to help save the Big East. Everything else is because of eyeballs. And, Wyoming, while having the 2nd largest fan base in the MWC, doesn't have a lot of people. Not a damn thing we could have done about it.....unless we adopted Utah's child birth rates.

In the end, we will be in a good place with a chance to play into a BCS game if we win the Alliance championship bowl.

I used to get really worried about all this conference realignment BS but in the end it doesn't really matter until we put a product on the field that consistently competes for conference championships and wins big regular season games. Look at BSU, a couple of BCS bowl wins and a few regular season wins over BCS schools and now they're the saviors of the Big Least. Look at Utah, a couple of BCS wins and 10 years of succes (after being mediocre for 30) they now get paid a boatload of money to be a doormat again.

While I agree that, as it currently stands, there are huge monetary benefits of being in a BCS conference, Bowl money and lucrative TV contracts, that all may change in 2 years, if the the BCS is scrapped, which could initiate another waive of conference realignment back to regional rivalries because the purpose for all this nonsense in the first palce no longer exists. In the end, whatever conference Wyoming ends up playing in whether that be the new MW (Old WAC) or the MW/USA super conference, we will just have to embrace our role as the underdog and earn a place into the upper eschelon by winning games.
