How much does this game tell us about Christensen?

1. The Pokes just got their tails handed them by a perceived rival in BYU at home.
2. The offense, which is his strength, has scored 10 points in three games.
3. Despite that, the Pokes are STILL in realistic contention for a bowl game and face a MUST-WIN against a beatable opponent on the road.

How does the way this team performs on Saturday tell us about DC the coach? - keeping in mind this will be his 10th game as a head coach, and he's had one recruiting class?

Unfortunately, I can’t gage DC’s success of future success on this season, little lone this game. I am tired of being a patient fan and am VERY tired of saying “there is always next year.” Even though it is ten games, it isn’t going to change overnight.

Kyle Whittingham went 7-5 his first year of taking over.
Bronco Mendenhall went 6-5 his first year.
Troy Calhoun went 9-3 his first year. He got Mt West Coach of the Year.
Gary Patterson finished 6-7 his first year as head coach.

My point it, in two years (or by the end of next year) if we aren’t competitive we can make a judgment.

This much I do know. Locksley has taken a decent football program and made them the laughing stock of college football.

Not a thing.

If Pokes win, tells us Glenn really did suck.

If Pokes lose, tells us SDSU's coach finally is getting results from the talent that has always been there.

DC has already surpassed Glen so this doesn't tell us a thing. If we are in the same boat 2 season's from now, then it will start telling us something about DC.

This is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than Shroyer -- Shroyer just now has his team playing as good as McClain's last team. Shroyer's "rebuilding" was a bunch of horse shite.

Kyle Whittingham took over a very good Utah program, so thats not even a legit comparison. Urban Meyer also took over a solid team that had just under achieved the year before which was why the job was open.

Honestly, DC probably has farther to go to get this team consistent and successful than any other coach on that list. That being said, he obviously brought in some freshman that are making a big impact on the team and I expect more of the same next year. I think we have a reasonable shot at getting bowl eligible this year (and still say to call this season a success need to be), and definitively would be very disappointed if we weren't bowl eligible next year.

I think what I'm most looking for is that the team comes out ready to play - I don't want to see this team fold the tent after last week.

My point exactly. Don't argue with me... I said the same thing.

In response to the previous guy, I was merely stating facts. Meaning we cannot base DC as a success after one year.

You are right, Whit took over a good team and STILL BARELY FINISHED BOWL ELIGIBLE that year! Therefore, we are all going to have to give DC some time. I wasn't comparing DC to the other coaches, but simply saying we can't expect him to finish top of the pack when NO ONE ON MY LIST DID EITHER!!!!

I said the same thing you just did.

The game will really only tell us whether Christensen is able to motivate players after such a thorough dismantling. Until he has had more time to instill his offense with the types of players required to run that offense, it is completely unfair to make any final judgment of him as a head coach.

With 12+ freshmen starting or playing very significant roles this year, and even more recruits taking over Glenn's guys for next year, I think next season we can start grading Christensen. Improvement can and should be made by next year, although some may say he needs even more time than that.

I think this game will say more about our current players than it will DC. Can they respond from an embarrassing loss? My experience as a player says yes. Losses usually carry over more with fans and the media.

We are playing a team more suited to our ability and the players know that. I don't see any hangover from last week.

I agree, I think this game says more about the upperclassmen on the team. Do they want to salvage their season/careers and go to a bowl game? None of the seniors have ever done that and they have been apart of a lot of teams that have folded up the tent. We will see if they have some pride left in themselves.

I hate to throw facts into this discussion but: Wittingham took over a team without the number 1 pick in the draft, Alex Smith. He did a decent job with what he had.

The better comparison is Sonny Lubick. He took over a lousy CSU team and went 6-5 his first year, including a beatdown of a pretty good Wyo. team coached by Tiller.

DC has not surpassed Glenn. Glen would have probably won the games we won. Last year, as bad as we were, we beat Tennessee.

Why does everyone give this guy (DC) a free pass? I realize the talent is not very good but he sure hasn't enhanced it much. He didn't bring in a single productive receiver or running back.

Watching our pathetic effort last week and then watching NM give byu all it can handle really pissed me off. It made me realize just how little, if any, progress has been made. NM has'nt won a game but they are playing harder than we are. I'm not so sure Locksley is such a bad coach. They played close games the last 2 weeks against SDS and UNlv.

What the hell have we done? We've been shut out 3 times this year!!! Maybe DC will work out, but he is no Sonny Lubick.
