Anybody know what the extent of the problem is with Riley's knee? If it is a tendon tear and needs surgery, I would not be surprised to see him go redshirt - if it isn't too late now. If it just needs to be scoped, then he would probably be good to go by conference time. When he is healthy, he is an important part of this team.

Article in the Trib today said that it is an inflamed iliotibial band. I have extensive experience with this issue. It's a band of tissue that runs from the outside of your hip down to the top of the tibia - it can get tight and get inflamed at the hip end or the knee end, common at the knee end for run/jump athletes. I've had it affect my knee - like a sharp, really painful pinching sensation right on the outside of your knee. You can be going fine and then it all of a sudden will pinch really bad. Now that I know what his issue is the way he all of a sudden had to come out of the game on Saturday makes perfect sense. It's the kind of thing that can be managed with stretching, foam rolling, and strengthening exercises. In some cases it will require some rest to let the inflammation calm down. It is extremely rare that it requires surgery.

Thank you - that info is very much appreciated.
