How high can this hoops team get?

No I'm not talking hits from the vape or bong. No I'm not talking about Josh Adams soaring through the sky.

I'm talking about how high do you think this Pokes team can rise in the national rankings this year. Sagarin ratings list the 351 D-1 hoops schools. Currently he has us sitting at 208. I'd say that's about accurate given our whole resume up to this point. Our top MWC foes stand at SDSU 41, UNM 62, BSU 63, UNLV 77, USU 96, FRES 107, CSU 109. Not sure I agree with all these ratings here but just wanted to give ya an idea of the competition. We seem like a team with potential to rise above our 208 status but by how much? Not saying he has the most legit ratings either but asking you guys out of 351 teams where do the Pokes stand.

I feel like at maximum potential the team that I've seen so far could maybe reach the 100-110 range. If Marshall gets thrown in and is indeed our 2nd best player well maybe we can lurk above the top 100 again. My gut is feeling more in the 145-155 range becoming dangerous by the end of the season especially at home. All of this would be great for a rebuilding year imo btw. More lumps have to be coming...they just have to be right??

What say U?

We're improving. Poor rebounding was killing us in the first few games, but we hit the boards on Saturday and guarded better in the 2nd half. We won comfortably. I'm not saying that MSU is world-beaters, but they have some really good players and I'll be damned if they don't compete in the Big Sky.

The game on Saturday made me believe that our team could be pretty damn good this year. I know that it was only 30 minutes of good basketball, but I really liked what I saw. The progress from game to game is very noticeable. The squad is coming together and figuring out roles, just as we hoped they would. Now, let's see if we can take a winnable game on the road on Wednesday. The road is where this team may struggle for a while. Getting that first road win will hopefully give us a boost of confidence that will hopefully carry for the rest of the season.

Awwww c'mon no prediction on where you think we might end up? Take a stab man. Shit we're always wrong on here so many times that its just best to forget, but I'm still curious as what others think about where we fall on that 351 team landscape. Do you think 208 is fair right now? You have to be in the top 85 teams to realistically be hoping for an out and out bid to the dance preferably in the top 70. I'd say top 150 teams could have a pop at winning their conference tourneys depending on the strength of the conference of course. I don't think a 150 team could win the MWC tourney...feel like you have to be more in the 105 and up for that with a hot ass hand.

I think realistically we have a shot at around 100. Obviously I'm hoping for more but my "realistic" ceiling would probably be around that 70-100. I could see us like USU last year where they started off struggled but came around and finished up in 5th place with a chance to make a run in the tourney. Obviously with our youth we could hit the skids and end up way worse and down in the standings. I will be cheering for a conf champ and in my heart I will beleive we can do it but right now my head says 4-5th 11-7 ish our ceiling.

Anyway, I will be enjoying watching this team competeing and grow over the course of the season and enjoying Adams for one last season.

I'll take a stab. I'm not too familiar with Sangrin, but I think we could crack the top 180. I think we'll finish right around 8th in conference, just like where we were predicted. I was pretty down, but the team looked so much better Saturday so who knows?

352  , Hello I love Dave Rice!! We will be in Wyoming Jan 9, come by and say hello to us!

Oh it's you again. It's been awhile since we've heard from you but some things did happen while you were away. Do you remember this?

Does that court look familiar? Oh yeah its the one you guys can't even win a home tourney on. Damn that's rough
Please tell your team to hold onto Dave Rice when he exits the plane in Laramie. We wouldn't want the Wyoming wind to get hold of your cardboard cutout coach sending him sailing around lost forever on the high plains. No we want him right there coaching your team on the sidelines and making a top 20 recruiting class somehow worse. Maybe you should get a pack of donuts to coach your team or better yet a gatorade bottle.

Oh yeah do you remember this guy?

Well that's what Wyoming is currently producing. No need to explain player development to you though.....not something your into. Enjoy your athletes. I'm def a little scared of UNLV this year but as long as you have Rice and we have Shyatt well we'll just have a punchers chance won't we. :troll: :troll: :troll: :troll: :troll: :troll: :troll: :troll:

:hijack: :hijack: :hijack:
Forget this cheesedick UNLV guy that always seems to disappear...

Lets get back to the original topic. Any more predictions for where you think we might end up out of 351 teams in your own mind? That DU win has me HIGH on the team again! Especially since we've found our D once more, which for me was by far and away the most troubling thing about this current season. I'll stick with my original prediction but its looking like my max potential thoughts could be true. I do think Mo Marshall is gonna have to be something big for us to try to make a run into the DANCE    Can this Wyoming team threaten to be in the top 80 even without him?

It's one game, against a summit league team. I'm going to wait and see how they stack up against elite competition like Cal before passing judgement. We have played 3 non D1 games and are 3-2 against D1 competition, none of which has been anything close to MW basketball.

DUDE! This is a prediction thread. Not a wait and see until the end of the season and then I'll tell you oh I think we're the 121st best D-1 basketball team in the country thread. My writing must suck ass because nobody has caught onto the point of this. Its about using your imagination and where you think this team might elevate or stagnate in your mind then placing them in the pack of 351. It does require knowing the field a little though.

FYI today after the DU win Sagarin had us jump 48 spots in his rankings essentially stealing DU's place at 160. That also seems pretty accurate to me on the way we're trending. If we bump Cal at home we can probably expect more of the same. Oh and he has Cal ranked as 50 for anyone that cares.
