History of the Univeristy of Wyoming Dome

If you guys want to make it happen, then make it happen, don't come on to wyo nation and say what you think should happen, write UW, write city of Laramie, write your govenor, write your congressmen. Make it happen. Writing wyo nation and saying we need to make something happen is NOT how you get something to happen.

I on the other hand don't give a shit about his just becuase CSU might/will build a new stadium really honestly doesn't mean shit to us. They still suck. And we are in a better football situation than them...
Also does anyone else even remember that the AA is being remodeled? No body thinking about that?
You know the whole major renovations that are going to be happening? Hello? Anyone out there?
just because csu is trying to suck a little less doesn't mean they are the new TCU to the big12....

I guess it all starts somewhere, right? Like posting things on a message board to inform and invite to action. Not everyone will take the invitation. Some just can't be bothered. It's hard work getting one's head down deep in the sand. Besides, learning from the past when planning for the future never works. Goal-setting and vision fulfillment is hard work- time consuming and expensive... besides the 80's were great, and will be again if they ever come back around! We just gotta be patient...

The idea has to start somewhere. The free flow and exchange of information and ideas, which Wyonation provides, is critical. How many people would be aware of Idaho's current situation without internet message boards/forums/blogs.

Current on-field performance is not in and of itself predictive of future success and standing. CSU has built-in recruiting/location advantages over us. To remain "superior" to them, we at a minimum have to provide equal facilities. To think that CSU building a modern on-campus stadium doesn't "mean shit to us," is to be naive.

This reminds me of a quote (don't know who saif it or when)....

"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

UW & Laramie itself needs to learn from past history and change it or we're totally screwed.

I was a student assistant in the Sports Information Office at the time they were promoting the building of the dome. I remember a trip we took in the UW airplane to Pocatello and Moscow, Idaho to get video of the Kibbe Dome and the Idaho State dome to use in promotional videos.

I've often felt that the Legislature was short sighted in their denial of the building of the dome. Not only would the facility accomodate football, but it would house baseball and basketball as well. It was an opportunity missed IMHO.

Or that the program would have been elevated to a status which would have enabled it to continue to invest and continue to remain at the forefront. (Idaho built theirs and has basically done nothing with it for 30-40 years)

Dear god.. I hope UW wasn't seriously considering the potato shacks in Idaho as a model.. those two facilities are laughable, and as Idaho is finding out, it's pretty tough to make it look better, to do any expansion, or even add luxury boxes.. the domes leave no room for upgrade. Regardless, I think Idaho would rather be playing outside, like they did prior to the Kib, than what they have now. They had a cool stadium pre-dome that could have been expanded and tweaked to their liking.

Not just any eyewitness, but one that confirms that our dome would have been a replica of the Kibbie Dome.....

No. There was never any intention to copy the Kibbe Dome. The video was to illustrate the usefulness of a large covered facility. The domed War was to be much, much, much larger -- Large enough to seat 50,000 people and to accomodate a regulation baseball field or a football field. Take the two upper decks, east and west and imagine them as just two segments of a large circle. It would have looked a lot like the old King Dome in Seattle. The roof was going to be fabric, suspended by cable and supported by a positive air flow, much like the Metro Dome in Minneapolis or the old Silver Dome in Detroit. The lower seating sections were to be movable to accomodate several sports, i.e. baseball, football, basketball and others.

Had this facility been built we probably wouldn't have built the AA or the IPF.
