To those still in denial about what world we live in and how far Wyoming has been left behind, Iowa has purportedly reached agreement with a high school junior wrestler Bo Bassett to attend on a $5 million NIL deal.

I’m not seeing this in the internet. Source??

Being reported in Iowa wrestling circles. The official announcement comes tomorrow 11 ET after Bassett’s PIAA quarterfinal dual team match.

If I ever rooted for a miracle wrestling upset, it is tomorrow with whoever faces Bassett. How ironic it would be for the guy who has made himself the attention of this recruitment process to be upset (by literally reducing his list once a month in a public statement).

I was wrong. It’s $5 million up front upon signing and then $5 million later for a total of $10 million to the high school junior.

Funny thing - he won’t be the only kid at his high school driving a McLaren next year . His teammate Jax Forrest is also rumored to be in the mix for a multi-million dollar deal.

I had no clue there was that kind of money in wrestling. That may be more than a wrestler has ever made

I’m sure it is the most but I’d bet Gable Steveson received the most for a single year this year. Bassett has often been compared to Spencer Lee. Lee probably also would have received an insane deal had NIL been around when he was choosing Iowa.

Wyoming missed the boat on women’s wrestling. That sport has just exploded and actually looks to be a potential money maker at schools like Iowa when it becomes a sanctioned D1 championship sport next year.

"Wyoming missed the boat on women’s wrestling."

We have at at the high school level already. It would make sense to add it at the University for Title 9 compliance in any event. I assume it would not too much in the way of additional expense and might be cheaper than some of the other sports.

Said this years ago. Could cut costs by eliminating women’s tennis or women’s golf and adding women’s wrestling. Teams can share some of the wrestling facilities. Women’s wrestling actually attracts viewers where tennis and golf attract basically none. But the time to start a program was a few years ago, we are behind at this point.
