Great wyo vision Kevin commentary today

I like the guy. I think he has the potential to be a good coach.
But I've got this eerie feeling that I can't shake.
Everything seems to be playing out like the late 80's and early to mid 90's...

Could this be Wright 2.0? I hope not.
Under Dees we had success with Dembo and Leckner. We had an NCAA trip and an NIT trip with Slater a few years later. But through Dees career if was noticeable that he was not bringing in the level of talent he was losing. Hence the win/loss dropping pretty much year to year. Until we have a roster full of question marks (for the most part) going in to the Wright years.

Skipping ahead. Shyatt has Success with Washington and Nance. Bringing us to several CBI's. Then we have an NCAA year with Nance and Adams. And Shyatt retires with a roster full of question marks. (For the most part)...

Is Edwards and crew good enough to succeed? I know he's played under and coached with great coaches in the past. But, so did Wright (Bob Knight- Indiana).

Penny for your thought???

Well those are definitely some concerns to think about. Its hard to compare because on paper Joby was an outstanding hire at the time. He had already had some success as a head coach at Miami (oh) and also was an assistant for Bob Knight for almost a decade.

Coach Edwards I think has a lot better understanding of the situation with Wyoming Basketball. He won't have to waste time becoming familiar and getting comfortable with a new town, new team, new admin, and culture. He is aware of the challenges Wyoming has but at the same time knows what makes it special. He has been recruiting kids to Wyoming for 5 years now and has been building some quality relationships with quality players. He won't be doing this new to the program like Joby was.

Secondly I don't think the team is full of question marks at all. We could have two of the best sharp shooters in the conference. We have a kid that is going to be a defensive nightmare trying to stop, but was taken out for every little freshman mistake he made. I think liebs is going to be a Riley type floor general. Our bigs are a work in process but they all have had flashes of greatness. Even Nance wasn't the force we know him now as until really the start of his Junior year. Besides Josh last season no one had any D1 starts under their belt. We were super inexperienced.

I agree that the roster is full of question marks, but that's part of having such a young roster. McManamen is a very good off ball scorer who has surpassed most people's expectations. As is, he's a solid player who could potentially grow some more. Lieberman was a decent player by the end of the season and will continue to grow. He could be a solid starter for the team next year. The game seems to be slowing down for him.

Most of the other guys have shown flashes of a skill or two that are there, but they weren't quite ready. Naughton needs to improve his conditioning in the worst kind of way and get some more experience. He'll be a very good big once those two things happen. Aka Gorski needs to get a better feel for the game on the defensive side and improve his physicality, but he is a very good shooter. You can go through the entire roster and see potential in each player as well as a major flaw that needs to be corrected. The only player who really has no hope is Barnes since he has zero feel for the game of basketball. His only hope is to play like Dennis Rodman, but he's too nice of a guy to do that.

Not even close... This hire was from within. Joby didn't succeed, but I'm not sure if he was head coach material. I do, however, think Edwards is going to be a great head coach. He will have difficulty's with the hard coaching responsibilities like firing... I hope he never has too. Recruiting to Laramie is they key to winning in Laramie, and this staff can recruit
