GREAT story about "The Project" [BYU/WAC]

This... is epic. SLC Tribune really did a great job with this story.. and it's good!

Utah State University president Stan Albrecht gleefully wrote in an Aug. 17 e-mail that Boise State University president Bob Kustra’s “world is crumbling around him and he is desperate.”

Titleist...I just got done reading this and was ready to post it but you beat me to the punch.

The interesting part of this story I found was the following quote:

"I talked to BYU reps several times over the weekend and they are getting close to finalizing the deal with ESPN ... it appears BYU is prepared to go forward despite not getting the exact number they were hoping for"

Ha! So much for their supposed $4-6 Mil...sound like the cougs were over-valuing their own product...might be yet another reason they are "rethinking" things now.

I still find it unusual that BYU and Utah aren't staying together. They must have an OOC arrangement in the future.

Anyway, so this makes the MWC home to three very reputable teams: BYU, Boise State, and TCU.

From the sounds of it, BYnerU and Utah will schedule eachother in OOC. The game is too big for Utah, especially considering the 2 schools are only about 60 miles apart.

This is one of the comments on the story
Blue-Hooo says:
The 21st century's version of the Black-14?

And take that to the bank Jay, after your "Kick in the rump" or whatever blog it was the other day about Wyoming and T-shirts (of which I cannot name or my post will be removed for "inappropriate language").

What I want to know is what is the T-shirt and where do I get one

I found it
ProudRedUtahAlum says:
"...Disrespectful? Yes. Absolutely. After all, folks in Laramie who print up those F--- BYU T-shirts every time the Cougars come to town don't have the market cornered on disrepect..."

So this gives BYU an excuse to be disrespectful? I thought one of BYU's trademarks was always taking the "moral high ground". The Wyoming fans don't pretend in anyway to claim they are gods chosen and belong to the one and only true church in the world. So according to this, BYU is right down there with Wyoming (and of course Utah) fans in the mud. I thought you were better than this.

"...Did nobody at the MWC offices know that BYU was extremely unhappy with the TV deal and looking for alternatives for the past three years, at least? Did nobody in Colorado Springs (MWC offices) put two-and-two together when Utah received a Pac-10 invitation and come to the conclusion that BYU wasn't going to take that kick in the teeth lying down?..."

Why was BYU unhappy? Did they feel they were "entitled" to more money, expose, whatever, than the rest of the conference? Sounds like greed to me. Is that also one of the moral values where BYU has some 'wiggle room'? And as for a 'kick in the teeth lying down', get over it for god sakes. Now it sounds like BYU is just being angry and vengeful. Yes, I get it, there is wiggle room for those too, especially where money is concerned. When Utah left for the Pac-10, it was by formal invitation and its departure had little effect on the MWC one way or the other once Boise State was brought in. The WAC had 8 teams and was still intact. Things looked fine. Now look at it. I wonder what god thinks about all this?

I love this kind of stuff. "The Project" doesn't seem to have been the right name for the project.
I don't like BYU and now have more reason to dislike Utah State and ESPN BUT so what. These things happen and I cannot spend all my energy worrying about it.

Sometimes these things make a song come to mind. That article made me think of Peter Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers".
It has lyrics like "Hans plays with Lotte, Lotte plays with Jane. Jane plays with Willi, Willi is happy again".
"Andre has a red flag, Chiang Ching's is blue. They all have hills to fly them on except for Lin Tai Yu."
"Whistling tunes we piss on the goons in the jungle." "It's a knockout."
Of course that's not all the lyrics. Now I'm going to go to youtube to find that song.

Also, on ponyfans.com someone has a thread saying a Las Vegas radio station is debating who the MWC should have SMU or Houston.

I listened this morning to June Jones on the Dallas' radio station The Ticket but was so busy that I didn't hear everything and may go back to it later for a replay listen.

And oops I forgot what I was going to say next.
