Got a helmet question for y'all

A good buddy of mine sent me a link of a Youtube video of Wyoming @ New Mexico (Wyoming won 28-23 btw).

He was wondering why we used a "W" logo for that game against the Lobos instead of the normal Bucking Bronco logo. Last time we had a "W" logo was in the early 1960s.

Any ideas why we used that logo that day last year?

This one?

I think just trying to mix it up. Old timers always want the same thing, the old traditional jersey and helmet while the recruits and players always wanna be wearing the hottest new cool stuff..

Yup you're absolutely right, recruits love the different configurations of colors and styles of the uniforms. They have a instagram site that showcases all the NCAA FBS new look Uniforms. They even showcased our Camo uniforms on the site.

I hate, Hate, HATE using the W on one side. Changing up the color scheme is fine by me, but don't mess with Steamboat!

Steamboat was still on one side though. The "W" on the helmet looks like a Washington alternate helmet. Leave Steamboat on both sides

Your hatred of the asymmetry of the "W" helmet is so ironic considering your love for the Steelers. Anyway, I agree that they should never mess with Steamboat, but as long as it's at least on one side of the helmet I'm okay with it.

Just my :twocents:

Not sure why they wore it during that game, but the W doesn't set us apart.

I used to have a black hat that had just the block W (steamboat on the side) on it while I was in school. Thought it was cool when I bought it as a freshman cause it was "different." Wore it around vegas at the MWC tourney one year. Can't tell you how many times I got a "Go Huskies!" or "Aren't Wisconsin's colors red?" Very few that weren't affiliated with UW recognized that I was a Cowboy fan. Got back to UW, bought a new hat with Steamboat on the front, and haven't had that problem since. I never buy apparel without it now. There can be W's or UW's on things as well, but without Steamboat, I don't want it. That little horse and rider has been recognized all over the country, and I tend to get a few "go pokes!" while travelling.

Steamboat is Wyoming. There's no question what that mark represents. Leave Steamboat alone, and keep it prominent on our uniforms and apparel. Coaches, athletes, students, and alumni should all be happy with that distinguished, recognizable mark.

GO POKES!

I love the steamboat logo, however I really liked the look of the W on the side when we use it for like one game a season. I thought that was one of our better looking jersey combos in the SDSU game and as long as they use the steamboat for most games and use the W only once or twice, especially with steamboat on the other side then I am all for it.

I've got no problem with the asymmetry, but I agree with other posters that it looks like the block W used for Washington. You're just alright with it because you're a Badger lover :D

Wyoming tried to step out of the box with the "W" on the helmet.......... however I will tell you that the feedback from the boosters was not good and needless to say; I would be surprised if we ever see it again. Wyoming uniform combinations are varied to say the least......however with the Nike contract comes pressure to wear more and more "flash" or as they call it now "Swag" to bolster the ratings of the sponsoring company.

I'm with you there. Wear the "W" along with Steamboat maybe once a year, doesn't hurt anything and we keep Steamboat, and if the players like it, well, no complaints from me.

To be honest, I kind of like them myself.

Same with me when I graduated HS in VA and decided to go to UW...parents bought me a black and brown UW hat with a W on the front. I got people asking about every "W" school, other than Wyoming. Pissed me off...so most of my stuff now spells out Wyoming, says Cowboys, or has Steamboat.

We'd be better off with a brown and gold buffalo from the state flag on one side and steamboat on the other.
