Good teams...

Good teams consistently win their conference games.
Good teams like BYU, Utah, and TCU constantly won their games against AFA, NM, Wyo, CSU, UNLV, and SDSU. The majority of their conference losses came against eachother. Sure there was the occasional upset of one of those teams, but that was it.

Great teams win those MWC games, then pull it against the other top MWC teams, AND their OOC games.
Think about TCU, and Utah during their best years in the MWC.
They might not have had the hardest schedules, but they found ways to win.
Maybe Utah, TCU, and BYU would have lost to Nebraska in Lincoln, that's fair, but they would not have lost to Texas State or CSU. No matter what.
Even on their bad days, they made the changes they needed to, and figured out ways to win.
It wasn't like every single game those guys played in was a total blowout, but they still figured things out when other teams had them on the ropes.

If Wyoming wants to be a consistently GOOD team, we need to win 6 MWC games a year. Plus a few OOC games.
If we want to be a GREAT team, well....let's worry about being a good team first.

Funny how in Boises DOWN years, they still take care of business. They might not win pretty, but they freaking win.
They change it up, and get the W.

If Texas State had Boise, TCU, Utah, or BYU on the ropes, they would made a change, and done something new and got the W.

We can be the OKAY team that makes a bowl game 3/5 years at a time, or we can be a GOOD team winning 6 at worst, to 10 tops, consistently finishing in the top of the MWC standings, occasionally competing for the title.

Wyoming doesn't have the players that want to tough it out.

We aren't the Ducks, that will just blow teams out by showing up. We have to play tough each and every game.
We need players that will not give up 21 point leads to New Mexico, or Alabama.
If you are up 21-0, you get MORE aggressive. You kill teams.

If you DO happen to give up a 21-0 lead, you need the players that are going to work hard to make sure it never happens again.

I guarantee you if the Wyo D had Ward Dobbs, Mitch Unrein, and John Fletcher and gave up a 21-0 lead, they would not have been happy with it, and would have given up less than 100 rush yards to CSU.

It's okay to lose IF you bounce back. It's not okay to lose and hang your heads.
It's okay to win ugly games, IF you did what you could to win it and are going to do whatever you can to fix your errors.

I'm sick of this team right now. Yep, the piss-poor performance has even gotten to BeaverPoke.

I'm sick of being let down every time I start getting excited about this team. I tried tempering my expectations before the Texas State game, and then again before this game. But no. Ugh.

I hate letdowns too, you talk the talk, walk the walk and look like things are turning around and it goes 2 steps forward 3 backwards. The Nebraska game gave us hope, then the 2 sleepwalking games vs Idaho and UNC shoulda maybe showed us something. Then the awesome game vs Air Force, a conference foe, sure gave us hope, then the letdown vs Texas St. A lackluster game but got it done vs the Lobos, were we over keyed vs the Sheeep?? 4 boots does not equal 5 automatically, the defense really needs to shore things up. But one thing that upsets me is our receivers, catch the ball during the BIG moments. Brett can't do it all, this is a team game and our "team" needs to wakeup and get it done. I can honestly say for the 1st time in a long time, I'm kinda embarrassed being a Pokes fan. We all knew the end of the schedule was back loaded and we'll truly see what kind of moxy and desire we have. They are all tough with the wintry exception of Hawaii, but DC really needs to make some changes and lets see what kind of coaching he does this week against the Spartans, it won't be easy but I have a hard time having any true faith in this team until they prove it to me otherwise.

Damn Beav, from talking about the possibility of being ranked fairly high just the day before the fame to thos...not saying I disagree cuz I'm right there with you but damn

This team struggles against the teams that are more physical than they are (i.e. power run teams). Look at the three losses, Nebraska, Texas State and CSU all three teams dominated the line of scrimmage from the opening kickoff; don't forget about a near loss against New Mexico who is the same type of team. The only reason the Pokes were even close to upsetting Nebraska was the offense played a nearly perfect game, without that they would've been crushed. I say that the Pokes do all right against SJSU, Nevada, Hawaii, and possibly Fresno (none of them really are as physical as those other three), not saying they will win these games, but they'll have a chance. They'll get smashed by Utah State and Boise State as they are the physical power run teams that give the Pokes fits.
Until the defense can figure out how to stop the run on a consistent basis this is what we're going to get. The only way for the Pokes to win is for the offense to play lights out and win shootouts, if not forget about it.

I will tell you this much....

We went from being "almost" respectable to many in the Mt West area to laughing stock again. I know no one cares what people in Utah think, but I actaully had USU, Utah and BYU neighbors saying "Wow, what a difference Wyoming is this year... They could probably beat us this year...etc etc..."

to....

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

Just getting old.

Sidenote; Even though most of them are back to being their usual bastard-selves, many of them were way impressed with Smith running down the guy after the fumble and throwing him around like a rag doll. I feel for Smith.
