Future concerns for hoops

I'm just happy that we are getting something out of the schollie we gave Sellers. Happy for him

Definitely. One of the few times I'm happy to eat crow. He's really stepped up his game. And while not the quickest guy, he uses his size quite well now.

Herndon is a friggin stud.
My god if he improves and gets even bigger the way Larry has throughout his time in Laramie, Herndon is on track to be better than Larry.

So hard to imagine it, but with the way these guys are winning, the better the recruits we are getting, soon we will have players better than Larry.

I feel almost guilty typing that, but it's true. Larry was part of the original class and committed before we had built anything. Recruiting classes keep getting better and better as we build a program and arena, and obviously the staff develops the talent, therefore we will have better players when all said and done, if we keep this coaching staff and keep winning and take it to the next level.
Hell, he may be a stud by the end of this season.

If Larry carries us into the tourney he'll be on the Mt. Rushmore of Wyo Hoops.

He would be on the list. If there was a Mount Rushmore of Wyoming Hoops.....right now I'd go with Sailors, Garnett, Dembo, and Leckner. If Larry gets us to the tourney and win a game, he could replace maybe Garnett. Larry is one of my all time favorites cuz the kid plays hard and is dedicated to Wyoming basketball.

Go POkes!!

He is on the list, but the other guys were all very good. One guy invented the jump shot, one guy was drafted #4 overall, two of the guys got 2nd in the NIT, a Sweet 16, and a top 5 ranking at one point.

BUT.....has there been a better Wyoming boy to ever grace a Wyoming uniform? Im not talking just basketball, ALL UW Sports.

Sailors was a Wyoming boy...but I know what you're saying. Bailey was an all-timer. He was great defensively, pretty unstoppable on offense due to his ability to create shots, and he was seriously clutch.

Good players on good teams get the most credit, and deservedly so. If we make a tourney run, Nance will be regarded as one of the best players in Wyoming history. His all around game has proven that, but he needs to lead this team to the promised land. Otherwise, he may be lumped in with players like Brandon Ewing, or even Reggie Slater and Theo Ratliff - great players on teams that didn't achieve the heights that we hoped for.

Fennis Dembo is the best player in Wyoming history. There's no argument that can be made otherwise. Looking from a skill perspective, Bailey isn't in the same ballpark as some other Wyoming players like Slater or Ratliff, but Bailey was a leader that won conference championships and made an NCAA tournament run. Championships help define a great player's legacy. Nance needs to win a championship.

Before someone wants to argue about someone other than Dembo being the best player in UW history, consider this:

When Dembo left Wyoming, here were his rankings in a number of statistical categories:

Points: 1st (still standing)
Rebounds: 1st
Assists: 2nd
Steals: 2nd (still standing)
Blocks: 2nd
FG Made: 1st (still standing)
3FG Made: 2nd
3FG %: 2nd
FT Made: 1st
Games Started: 1st (still standing)

Plus, he took us to the NIT finals and back to back NCAA tournament appearances. Those teams were loaded, mind you. I believe that in every category listed above where Dembo didn't set the Wyoming record, one of his teammates did.

Marcus is one of my all time favorites. But there have been some pretty good Wyoming boys playing football and basketball over the years who have been pretty good.

So anyways...
yes larry will likely be one of the greats if not the greatest depending on far this team goes, but the fact of the matter we are recruiting better and better players every season now, and if we keep winning and makes big dance runs and fill up the AA, we will get even better recruits.
