Let me start off by saying I am a BYU fan living in Northern Colorado. I know many of you do not like me for that. But I have worked with many great Wyoming Alumni and just wanted to stop by and say I have a lot of respect for you guys. Through the years I have attended many sporting events at Wyoming. I have seen your opening week victory against us in 1988 when you went on to be ranked as high as #10 in the country and ran through the WAC. I remember the 1996 WAC Championship game where we received multiple breaks to eek out a 28-25 win when we were ranked #6 in the country. Wyoming was always a tough game (except for the 3 years Koenning was the coach, am I right?) and well respected.
I have seen your hoops team play more times than I can count (obviously once it gets past my 20 digits I am in trouble) and remember Dembo, Slater, Ratliff, Leckner and Dr. Marcus Bailey (really good guy). My favorite was Steve McClain being 5 foot nothing and being so intense on the sideline with all of these players so much bigger than him.
I remember going to the old MWC tournaments in Vegas and always being shocked by the sheer number of Wyoming fans attending regardless of how good your team was. Fans from like San Diego St couldn't make the 4 hour drive, but folks from Laramie made it 15 hours or whatever it is with no issues.
I will be at the game Saturday and just wanted to say cheers on a rivalry that I have enjoyed. This may be my last time at War Memorial Stadium and it has been a fun ride with highs and lows for both sides. I don't like the current state of the sport any more than the next guy and hate that so many schools including BYU and now CSU were almost forced to leave old rivalries to make more revenue in order to compete. College sports has just become a money grab out in the open for all to see.
Again I know this post won't go over well with most of you and I understand that. You dislike everything BYU. That is certainly your right. (I am not fond of the Utes myself) I just wanted to let you know how much respect I have for y'all and your teams through the years.
