Football Separating from NCAA...

I have heard that there have been some initial talks from big wigs (TV executives, University Leaders and Business Moguls) about football starting to look at
separating from the NCAA and creating their own governing body. This would include unionizing of the players and some form of better structure with players being paid somehow with a salary cap and better transfer rules. I do not think the current conference structure will be in place in 4-5 years.

I always thought it strange that baseball had its own minor leagues to develop talent but now I wonder if that is the direction we will see in the not distant future for football as well. Different NFL teams having direct tie-ins with certain programs as feeder teams.

I heard something about this as well. I believe Ohio St was one driving this discussion. I’d like to find a link to some news regarding the idea behind it.

Hope so. At this point let the whole thing burn to the ground

That plan is only for the Big boy conferences. That won’t include any lower teams like Wyoming or left over MWC teams. Probably a lot of G5 teams won’t be involved in that split. There might be a few but not many. They are trying to get away from having any smaller type schools or loser type schools belong anymore.

The flow chart first box will be: Can you afford unlimited scholarships and revenue sharing?
If no, see the leftover bin.
If yes, does your presence increase TV money or are you just guaranteed content?
If just guaranteed content, see the leftover bin.
Etc.

The split in some form is inevitable and will coincide with the end of the old playoff contract in 2026.

1.3 billion is a lot of cash and I'm guessing g5 and several p4 schools don't add much to that 1.3 billion. You can get a lot of addition by subtraction. It might take until the 2029 0r 2030 season when new negotiations take place for the next playoff deal, but I doubt it.

It will be only a few top teams from the ACC. Big 12 and Norte Dame and the rest will be most but not all of the SEC and Big 10. I don't see any of PAC whatever being invited to the party. Definitely no one from the G5
