Observations:

Cortland Fort listed as a strong safety. Came in as a corner.

Zach Parham a 2nd string corner. Looks like the move from RB was a good one for him.

Zack Berg at the bottom of the WILL LB chart. Surprising after how well he did last spring. RFr. Wacha starting in that spot.

Puletasi listed as starting Buck, which is a hybrid DE/OLB. Hala'api'api backing him up.

Sam Stratton is the backup punter right now.

Omar Stover is currently the backup RB over Wick.

Sewell at the bottom of the WR depth chart. I wonder what's going on with him?

I'm thinking there's going to be a lot of redshirting going on again this season, which I'm not against. It's good that we have the depth to do so.

Looks like we really do have solid depth across the board.

Surprised to see Chad Reese at #2.

Anyone know what's up with Sewell? Seems low on the depth chart.

Uso Olive is taking the reigns. Hope Boyland can perform and become a starter.

What is the Buck? Hala'api'Api is now on the line?

DE/OLB, like in the 3-4 defense. For guys in the 240-250lbs range.

What I find interesting is that Hala'api'api is also the starting long snapper.

The faces sure have changed at safety. Hopefully for the better. LB has been a quiet concern on defense for awhile now. Need to see improvement there.

Olive, Mertens, and Boyland are a solid 3 at DT. That said, they need to stay healthy. Overall on defense, I think most are in "prove it" mode with these guys. We talk about these defensive issues all the time.... for years now on this message board, and they are always bad. Until they put it on the field, I expect only a slight improvement on defense. Which might be enough for this team.

The depth at RB needs to improve. Someone absolutely has to step up there....and I don't mean against CSU or UNLV....I mean step up against good teams. Smith cannot do everything himself.

Damn, Herron is a senior already. Time flies by.

Not sure what is up with Trent Sewell.....thus far, he looks buried under the WR depth.

Lastly, the OL has decent size.....here's hoping they too have improved. They do a good job most of the time, but things get ugly against teams with good/great defenses.

Overall.....Wyoming will once again be the toughest team in the MWC to predict. The Wildcard Cowboys.....

Yeah, a lot of people were "discouraged" when we first saw Herron against New Mexico (2 fumbles as a RB I think). Ever since the transition to WR and bringing in Sage for recievers coach, he's become one of the best deep threats in the conference.

He keeps those legs healthy, and he's a lock at go over 1K receiving yards this year. There will always be a small sense of "what could have been" with Herron, but he should go out with a bang this season.

Him blazing past those Texas DBs will look real good come the 2014 draft...

the most important positions to fill on any team are...

1. quarterback
2. defensive lineman to include d-ends
3. wide receivers
4. offensive tackles
5. cornerbacks

those are the most highly paid positions in the nfl for a reason.

yes, there are adrian petersons and ray lewis's out there... but they are exceptions to the rule. we need to concentrate on the defensive line... and i think they did in last years recruiting class. d-lineman have to fill the gap and produce, otherwise it compromises the linebackers, which then in turn compromises the cornerbacks.

amazing defenses can be built around 4 stars up front and 7 role players behind them.

we are still to young and inexperienced up front to be phenominal this year. but i think we have enough beef now to get a stop 60% of the time (short yardage situations).

offensively I think this team is near being an outstandingly balanced attack. I think running on tyler strong's side will produce good numbers.

i curious about sewell as others, but at least nico is moving up. I actually thought that brown was the better reciever coming out of highschool. he looked much faster.

I heard Sewell has been really sick lately and barely practiced at all this spring. Also the RB position has 3 co starters with May, Stover and Wick. That's what the "or" stands for on the chart. Im really surprised to see Wacha at #1. Not that he isn't a good player, but I dont see him as the starter At Lb. I dont read much into the depth chart at this point. I dont see Zaqoua Parham as the #2 corner going into the Nebraska game. I can also see Stover being redshirted when Brandon Miller comes back, you dont want to burn a redshirt on a kid when you have three veterans in front of him. Come fall the real competition starts up. Really excited to see the new guys compete this fall.

Hope Trent gets better. My brother knew him well......kid was always a freak athlete, even when he was in Middle School. The WR corps is solid, but you hope Sewell, Brown, whoever emerges into that possession WR role. That big body who gets first downs just based on strength.

Offense is going to win game this season, defense probably will be slightly better then last season, still in the bottom third of the country. Looking at the schedule Outside of Neb. and AFA on the road I think we can go into November with only one or two losses. UI, TXST, UNC, CSU, UNM, SJSU couldn't ask for a better starting 8 games of the year. Need to execute which we will do as long as Brett stays healthy. Does anybody know about Cade Smith?

I also think the SJSU game is very winnable. They pretty much lost their entire coaching staff. They won the WAC when it was depleted with all the good teams in the MW.

Also... Cade already has a Wyoming offer but is getting looks from some PAC-12 schools. Who knows if he wants to follow his brother...

Don't get too caught up in the Spring depth charts....they will change by fall. Typically the spring charts will reflect the scholarship-ed athletes in the one and two position. Interestingly enough my son has been running at the two spot all spring until the day before they released the depth chart....then they moved him to the "h" receiver and placed him at the three spot and moved NIco into the 2 spot at the Y receiver. So bottom line is they really don' t mean anything as far as who will play next fall.

If he goes to Oregon State, I will have no problem with that. If not the Beavs, it would be sweet to get him at Wyo.

ACS's brother is going to Vanderbilt. He is supposedly much better than ACS was.

I knew it! I knew it! Smith might not start at QB next Fall!

San Jose State didn't win the WAC......Utah State did, in fact SJSU NEVER won a WAC Title and hasn't won a conference championship since winning the Big West back in 1991

Think as the season goes on, it will become evident that both SJSU and USU a very winnable games for UW.

SJSU, USU, and LTU all have historic banner years the same season.....when all the WAC teams who've abused them for years are gone? That is no coincidence.

Ok, Ok a few of the positions have some merit when it comes to the spring depth chart! LOL

I heard one of the new JC safety's tore his Achilles and is done for the season. I believe it was Jesse Sampson who was a top the depth chart. Huge blow to an already beat up secondary.

Can anyone confirm this? That sucks.
