Few thoughts.. (my 2 cents so far)

OK once your finished reading fill free to fire away at me.
1st.. I sure miss Nance, Cooke (way more than i thought on him), and Greybs ft shooting.. ok got that out of the way

2nd.. Before the season started I was hoping for NCAA tourny but guessing it could be really an up and down year. from game to game.. so far thats very true. What I want to see for this year is IMPROVEMENT!! So that I can get excited for what will be coming in the following years. (unlike football.. i just dont see reason to get excited)

3rd.. I have a feeling when Josh Adams is ON.. we will compete.. when he is off.. we will prob get beat.. partially because he is going to take his 20 shots a game.. I just dont see enough points from others yet to take up his slack if he is having an off night..

4th.. yeah yeah.. I KNOW.. Herndon likes to play out side.. but we HAVE NOTHING in the paint.. Id reather see Barns and Naught getting playing time to develop our Bigs down low.. But then again one of the things I dont like about shy is that his offense isnt designed around using bigs in a traditional sense.. I think gorski/adams/and mac.. (really all of our guys) are much better at shooting the 3 when they are set.. the problem is adams is usually fading away.. or some crazy shot or shot clock is winding down and we jack them up.. yep % will go down...

5th our REBOUNDING.. ohhh boy.. im going to have to to blame the coaching on this as well.. (ps I love shy but disagree with a few of this things) when you have a guy like Hernd playing and he pretty much is standing out on the 3 point line YES we are going to get killed on the boards.. If Hernd and Barns were playing down low (even if we want to play softer with more jump shots) they have to be down by the basket to get boards out at the 3 point line isnt going to work.. IF you dont want to play traditional Big guys down low then we HAVE to run and gun a bit more

6th.. I think right now Id try to get most of the guys playing time.. I think there is a roll for each of them.. but here is who I would start
5 Barns or maybe Naught (get both time on the court and see who will bang hard and get boards..)
4 Hernd/Dalton.. (get both time on the court).. they both play soft so know thats what your going to get
3 James/Morris (slashers athletic .. and also have these 2 crash the boards...
2 Mcman/gorsk.. see which one has the hot hand.. and go with him.. If neither..bench them both and play adams here and washington/lib at 1
1 Adams/Washington .... Adams is about our point guard anyway, he will have the ball in his hands so why not here..

Yes I know Im leaving a few out.. and they should get playing time.. but Id start with this
There can be lots of variations with these players.. find out who is hot.. foul trouble..

I think its going to be a tough year.. live by the 3 die by the 3.. Road games wins are going to be hard to come by in my opinion.. just too young of a team.. and then adams will think/try to take over and hence.. how he goes so goes the team.

I'd like to see Barnes, Marshall, James, Adams and Washington start. This gives us our best chance to not get killed on the boards and to not have a stagnant offense.

Id like to see that to.. just don't think Shy will do that.. whats the deal with marshall anyway?? Seems almost EVERYONE wants to see him more.. yet we don't? (shy likes Hernd) what do you think of Naughton?

The only thing I would add to this thread is that there was a reason we were getting pushed around down low last night. I don't remember his name, but he was 6 ft 9, 285 lbs. We could have used him on our football team.

A little light for an OT, but not terribly so.

Adams should play pg. less Washington or Lieberman won't hurt. More gorski, Marshall, and James will help. Ball in Adams hands will help. Needs to learn to play pg. on our time is best

Disagree a lot with this bold part.

Washington needs to be playing more. I agree Lieberman should get less time but not Washington. He needs to play as much as possible. As far as Adams at pg it doesn't really matter who plays pg. We need Washington, Adams, James, Marshall all on the floor to create dribble drives which would free up things and create space for someone on the floor for open shots. All 4 of them are capable of hitting open jumpers or getting to the rim and creating for themselves or someone else. If you had all 4 on the floor it would put pressure on the defense. BUT........

The way Shyatt is rotating people and not playing Marshall it will never happen though. So not sure why any of us talk about it , We might as well :deadhorse1:

Maybe it is time one of our crack beat reporters (Gags, Holmgren, etc.) asked him why the kid isn't playing. I understand they probably don't want to risk pissing off a coach and limiting access, but damn, aren't they curious why one of the best players on the team is warming the pine?

I think one contributing factor may be his conditioning. He missed quite a bit of time with his concussion and couldn't even work out on his own. This may explain why he's nothe in for long stretches, but like everyone else it's puzzling how he gets so few minutes overall.

My apologies if this is a dumb question: we know we have at least 3 guys who can drive, and 2 - 3 others who can drive with the right matchup. If I read correctly, a concern is that we don't drive enough. Could it be that Shyatt has pulled the reigns until our guys are comfortable with the offense and their roles in it? Watching josh create shots might put points on the board, but it wouldn't necessarily teach the other 4 the offense.

I think we had a DT that was built like that on Tiller's last team.

I don't know much, but this whole discussion seems to focus on the offensive skills of the various players. If I understand Coach Shyatt, he is going to use the guys that understand and do what he wants on defense with the fewest mental mistakes. Once he has those guys on the court, he will use the offensive strategy that gives them the best chance to win.

He really dislikes defensive mistakes.

Also, I completely agree with those who aren't particularly impressed with Coach's approach to rebounding. That was my biggest question mark back in 1997-98 and again this time around.
