FBS Coaching Salary List

I think they have screwed up some of the conferences on that list. Other than that, it looks like we are paying pretty competitive for the MWC.

I think the most important quality we're looking for in a coach (beyond the basic requisites) is one who is a proven game-changer, a rainmaker, on either the FCS or FBS level. I know a lot of people point to Joe Glenn and UNLV's Bobby Hauck (who is more likely to get into a bowl game this year than the Cowboys- yes, you heard it here first, UNLV is more likely to play in the post season than Wyoming) as elevated FCS duds, but neither one of them 180'd a program, they both succeeded with already-successful or middling programs. That being said, the formula of coaching fundamentals (which I think DC somewhat lacks), fiery motivational skills balanced by team discipline (no breaking training at the Buck'), and a no-excuses, can-do, no-O2-K2-ascending POV backed up by real examples is what we need to be looking for.

Wyo needs their own version of Mike Riley for Oregon State. Born and raised in Corvallis, went to OSU, then has been coaching there for ever. Had a stint or two at other jobs, including USC and the NFL, but is not leaving Oregon State unless they fire him.
He accepts less money because he is home. He is where he wants to be.

Wyo needs someone like that.
I guess, we kind of got that with Shyatt on the basketball team.
We know he isn't going any where unless WE drive him out.

Well, aside from the fact that Shyatt wasn't born and raised in Laramie, didn't go to UW, and hasn't been coaching there "for ever", yeah, Shyatt's just like Riley.

There's exactly one person currently coaching that you described and has changed the direction of a program- his name is Chuck Pagano.

Like the reality of Wyoming-bred players, in a state as small as Wyoming, the candidate pool is very, very shallow. Native-ness and/or alumnus status should't really be considered for the position other than incidental to someone who is actually qualified.
