Expansion Concerns

First of all, I wish the Big Ten, and Pac-10 would start sending out invites already, and figure out what the hell is going on, because all the possible scenarios are starting to get irritating. But, whatever.

Aside from that I have some concerns if the Big-12 breaks apart. I will be the first to admit, that I don't have the first idea about all the politics that go into expansion, realignment and everything else. Never the less, the idea of the MWC expanding beyond more than one or two teams could be wind up being bad for UW. It almost looks like the WAC 16 all over again, except this time, the conference would be getting higher profile schools.

If the Big-12 dispands, and UT, A&M, TT, OK, OKst, and Baylor/CU bolt for the Pac - 10, and Nebraska and Mizzou go to the Big Ten, teh Big 12 is done. Or however that could work out. Then, odds are KU, KSU, ISU, and Baylor/CU likely join the MWC. Throw in an invite to BSU, and you now have a large and much more powerful MWC. A nice 14 team conference divided into 2 divisions, and more likely chance of AQ status (Ironically that would be based more on the accomplishments by Utah, TCU, and Boise, but what the hell).

Now here is my concern. What's not to say that in 3-4 years, the bigger, more athletically elite schools in the conference decide to leave and create a new conference like the Mountain West did? KU, KSU, ISU, CU/Baylor, Utah, BYU, BSU, UNM, TCU, and likely CSU, AFA, and probably either UNLV or SDSU bolt to make another new conference. Obviously some schools would be based more on media market, and things like that. A shitty thing about that, at least as far as football is concerned, is that I honestly don't really see any of the schools from the Big 12 coming and dominating.

But, they'd still be butt-hurt by being screwed by the Big-12 going away, that they'd do the same thing the MWC when it split from the WAC, wanting better, stronger and more consistent competition (supposedly that; no need to mention UNM, CSU, SDSU, and UNLV football records last year). And just reading the crap from the assholes on other boards, leaving UW behind would make their day. Cause even now, as we all know, people on the MWC board, ESPN, and others constantly want UW out of the league without any real good justification, and a lot of them aren't even MWC fans. Apparently we pissed some people off.

I have no idea what's going to happen. I am in favor of adding at least Boise, but I think if the conference expands too much like the WAC did, this could happen. And then we'd probably wind up in... the WAC. If the MWC expands to 14 teams, the best chance of the conference staying together at that size, IMO, as mentioned several times on other posts and other boards, is that the middle and bottom tier teams currently in the MWC, need to start cracking into that top 3 and 4 in the conference; consistently. And in UW's case, it's probably more important that they become that team just because of the other factors, like the media market, working against them.

As Cowboy fans we all know we've had to endure getting screwed over in one way or another time and time again, (case in point, based on the 6 win bowl eligibility requirement, wyoming would have been bowl eligible 8 times from 1990-1999, and got 2 invites, and I don't think anyone got screwed harder than the 96' team except those fine working professionals in the Adult Entertainment Industry). And I would hate to see them get left behind because some whiny, pissy former Big 12 schools don't think that we're on the same level.

Sorry if this is long-winded and convoluted. Stream of conscious writing is not one of my better talents.

eff the Big 12 leftovers.. i dont want ANY of them because they havent had to fight for respect like the rest of us.

BUT if the MWC is retarded and bring in all these losers and UW somehow gets booted..we will survive, maybe we end up being the espn darlings playing at jacked up times and eventually fight our way to the point BSU is at, if thats what it takes....we can handle it, cause WE ARE THE COWBOYS DAMMIT!

It would suck, but as a fan i am not scared of any of the expansion scenarios. I am ready for change cause this BCS monopoly bull cant get much worse.

maybe Wyoming becomes what we know they can with Coach C and a new basketball coach. Look, our program is getting better. Wrestling, women's bball, I think volleyball will turn, soccer will turn, tennis is on its way...I am an optimist. They won't be able to cut us - they won't be able to afford it. And if we don't get better, maybe we shouldn't be with the big boys?

I give these 16 team super conferences spanning 3 time zones about 5 years before they start falling apart.
