Exhibition Game

Truly was just that. Starters looked good, especially in the last 10 minutes of the first half. The second half was dull as hell - but I expected that Shyatt wanted to test drive his bench players. And he did that. I had the feeling the scoreboard didn't matter.

Supposedly the best player on the team - Hankerson - didn't see a second of PT. Not sure why he nor McManamen didn't see the floor - very strange.

The new "rules" - loosely stated, are going to kill the game IMO. Not only do they slow everything down, the soccer flop (as we knew it last season) is OVER. To get an offensive foul, you damn near have to murder the defender. And defensive fouls are a plenty. Winning & losing will come down to freethrows now even more.

Trey looked solid, as did Sobey, and Grabau, and Adams. Liked Nance (of course) and Cooke. MWC play is going to be tough - good thing we have a couple of months and 12 +/- games to figure things out.

And good thing we have some real tests in Boulder, and Columbus this season. Along with the SMU game at home.
The SMU game should be treated as a neutral court game for the players. It's December 20th. There will be NO students there. One of those, buckle down, grind it out type games.

MWC play will be rough, but when is it not?

True, true, and true.

And very true, as to why there is "non-conference" before conference.

I really liked what I saw outta the starting 5, Larry's gonna be a beat and man he's sure turned into quite the leader!! Josh still has his smooth stroke, and quick off the ball. Riley's shooting way better, Derek is more of a force down low, Nate is deadly behind the arc and not afraid to slash to the hole.

I really like what i see outta Trey Washington, quick can shoot, can hit his throws, he's gonna be really good!!!
Granberry, has flashes of Leonard in him and he's gonna be an asset as well
Herndon, like his height and quick hustle
Austin Halderson has put on more weight and has a bit more touch
Matt Sellers---OGRE, still the same extremely slow dude, can get a few rebounds but needs to learn how to jump and get timely rebounds, just a big guy to fill space
Jack Bentz, I really like all aspects of his game and what he does for us, nothing will lack when he's on the floor
Kenota Vernon, I see potential in all aspects, he's a big body as well that will help once he takes it to the hole!!
As for McManamen didn't play and what the heck why didn't Hankerson play??? hope it's not grades.

This team has the potential to being kinda deep, there isn't a player that can step in and fill it up. I really see us gaining confidence all season long and we might steal a game or 2 in conference.
I like what I see, should be fun as usual.
GO POKES

Nate is deadly behind the arc? he was 0-3

True, but he has demonstrated that range in the past. Hit over 40% last year (a little misleading due to the AFA game, only hit about 33% in other games) and should be able to knock down a decent number of open shots. I was more impressed with his ability going to the rim last night. Pokes are going to need ways to generate offense and I think Nate can be a go to guy late in the shot clock.

I think Nance is the guy to go to late in the clock.
I also think Adams is.
I think Grabau and Sobey are good options. I remember quite a few buzzer beaters from them both.
And Hankerson will likely be a guy to go to.
The entire starting 5 is going to work really well together and are all pretty damn capable.
