English is a MAJOR problem and should be replaced!

I think the guy is in w-a-y over his head and is probably a 50ith percentile coordinator, at best, but whether you think it is his lack of ability, as I do, or being undersized, English is THE problem. He has set the recruiting plan for UW defense for at least three years and he has been the DC for three years. Coaching is critical and English, or 'Marty' for some of those who like the guy, has done a very poor job as our defensive coordinator. Sure he seems to have convinced some that his 'schemes' are good, LOL, but his numbers and performance SUCK! On a micro note, but one that is representative of English's years as DC, the Cowboys can't tackle well and that hurts the Cowboys. Is that size or poor priorities as a DC? Take your pick, and tackling is very emblematic of the English DC years. English needs to be replaced if the Wyoming Cowboys want to perform at a higher level.

+1

The lack of basic defensive fundamentals (assignments, tackling, etc.) is unacceptable, reguardless of our overall size.

I agree. I want him gone or at least demoted. Seems like a good guy so I would chose the latter

I don't see English as the problem. I see the lack of DC letting him do his fucking job, as the problem. While JG was largely in favor of a coach-empowerment situation, DC is not...or at least has not been thus far.

Also...just a point of information...the D side of the ball has been decimated on many accounts (this has zero to do with English & his coaching ability):

1. Injuries
2. D players moved to O
3. D assistant coaches forced on English that shouldn't be coaching at all (Matt Rahl)
4. The DC attrition factor (Gary, etc.)

However we are seeing quite a bit of lack of fundementals from many defensive players, like blown assignments, arm tackling, etc. Those are things that are the job of EVERY defensive coordinator, and I have seen almost every other team we have gone up against have those fundementals down, if nothing else, and you could see it while every game for us, we have blown assignments, arm tackling power backs that just ignore them, and playing 10 yards off of recievers and allowing them first down after first down. These things are not DC's job, but English's, period.

McPeachy, could you, or I should ask 'will you' elaborate? I've heard the same sentiment about Christensen's interference before. I don't doubt it given his arrogance but what would he hope to gain by messing up the defense, which hasn't played well since Christensen got here? I mean, before we got Coach Brandon, thank goodness, our offense was messed up, so you'd think he would have tried to strengthen the 'D'. Brett Smith, as good as he is, would have labored through a 3-9 season, in my opinion, without Coach Brandon calling the offensive shots this year. Thanks.

I can confirm Wyoming has reassigned ex-DC Marty English to Linebackers Coach. Chris Tormey leading candidate for DC job.

It's from sports by brooks, so take it with a grain of salt.

My hunch is you give Brandon way too much credit for his input into the offensive shots.
I mean, if the head coach is going to mettle in the defensive ideas and he is an offensive coach, you think he has hands off with the offense? Don't be so naive.

Don't you know....If something goes wrong it is Dave's fault but if something goes good it is someone else that caused it. :brick:

That being said I think coach brandon was a great hire and is one of the major reasons for our turn around on offense.
