Four-star commit Hunter Thompson to walk on first year at Wyoming (trib.com)

“They just said that they are trying to find a wing (in the 2017 class),” Thompson said. “I respect their decision, just because I (previously) committed to Creighton, and I just want to be respectful to them.”

“I’ve been trying to get in a couple of my teammates on the Prospects that have offers from Wyoming,” Thompson said. “It would be fun just to play with some players that I’ve already had some past team chemistry with.”

WYOMING

When one thinks about the Mountain West Conference, usually the school names of San Diego State, UNLV, and New Mexico pop up when assessing who might be competing for the league’s title. However, Wyoming seems to continue to fly under the radar and now with Allen Edwards running the program, the Cowboys are ready to make another push for a conference championship where it currently sits with the best group of senior commits within the MWC. Backing away from his Creighton commitment, Hunter Thompson is an excellent pick and pop option in the frontcourt that has the talent base to build upon in becoming a solid scoring option out of the big man position. Hunter Maldonado adds further versatility and upside to the Wyoming gang and by beating out a bevy of power conference programs for the signature of Anthony Mack, don’t expect for the Cowboys to sneak up on many others for much longer where they are slowly evolving into being the hunted.

Why have we not seen the announcement on Mack yet from UW? I am getting nervous. Should I be?
I wouldn't worry about it. Enough proof through the pictures above that he's signed and sealed. We should see something shortly.

David Ramsey: Vista Ridge basketball star Hunter Maldonado signs up for big things at Wyoming (The Gazette)

Joe Hites, Vista Ridge's coach, is embarking on his 30th season of crafting teams. He's Maldonado's toughest critic.

And biggest fan.

"He's a special kid," Hites said a few minutes after basketball practice. "I'm just thankful that I got another day to work with him. For most kids, in this day and age, it's all about me. He's just that throwback kid. He knows he doesn't do it on his own."

Edwards Inks Three Talented Players (GoWyo.com)

“We are excited about this recruiting class,” Edwards said. “To be able to get the quality of players that we were able to get is very impressive. All three of these young men have a great work ethic. I have to compliment our staff in identifying players that fit what this program is trying to do moving forward.”

Hunter Thompson, Anthony Mack and Hunter Maldonado sign with Wyoming men's basketball (trib.com)

“I think first credit, obviously, just goes to the staff at whole on identifying guys that fit what we’re trying to do going forward and then putting in the necessary time to build a relationship, put our eyes as a staff on them and then the time we spent with the student-athlete and their families,” head coach Allen Edwards said. “But with that being said, I don’t know if I could have asked anything better in your first recruiting class, when you think about the pieces and how they fit and how we were able to get them.”
