Draft is getting closer

So I figured I would spark some interest in Wyoming prospects. Herron has had some really good team work outs catapulting his stock from what most considered a 4-6 round pick to an early 3.

92. Carolina Panthers: Robert Herron, WR, Wyoming
The loss of Steve Smith robbed Cam Newton of his top deep-ball weapon. Herron has speed to burn and shows a knack for putting the ball in the paint.

Brett Smith very little chatter from anyone outside of a few sources that believe he is the QB that will shock teams and will be the steal of the draft in that position.

Marqueston has been like a ghost, pretty much no draft talk about him from any media source.

So thats about the respect Wyoming players earn, three going into the draft but only room for one in the top four rounds. We only have four days left to see it all unfold, What teams do you guys think Cowboys will end up on and what teams do you want Cowboys to end up on?

Just wish the draft was over. I hate the fact they pushed it back several weeks. Feels like they have been discussing it forever and I am getting sick of it. Its not like the teams are changing their opinions on people every day but the analyists keep talking and saying different things than they said last week etc. Getting really old. I've always enjoyed the draft but this year I am getting sick of it. Move it back into April.

Can we also move it back to Saturday and Sunday? I used to make a weekend out of the draft. Spreading it out over 3 days and starting on Thursday has kind of ruined it for me.

+1

I have accepted the starting on thursday thing. Its kinda fun to get some beers at a bar and watch it but I enjoyed sturday- sunday more.

I'm a draft nut. I love it, and follow it closely and read all the chatter. The closer it gets, the more I think Brett has made a terrible mistake. I'm beginning to wonder if he will even get drafted. There is absolutely no discussion about him on any sites. After Manziel, Bridgewater and Bortles, there are lots of quarterbacks being discussed, but but Brett isn't one of them. It seems McCarron, Fales, Murray, Garroppolo, Mettenberger and now even Tom Savage are ranked higher than Brett. I hope I'm wrong but it's not looking good.

Dare I say he could possibly play in Canada? I agree as his name has kind of disappeared.....just wonder is that is just media and not GM's though.

It's absolutely media. They latch on to a set number of players early and never speak of anyone else throughout the draft process. Remember, no one said anything about Prosinski before the draft that year, but he was a 4th round selection.

Go to about the 10:20 mark. This guy likes Brett.

Yeah some people don't talk about him and others do. Not a big deal. I really hate most of the "draft experts" everyone has an opinion but most don't have any clue about what teams think.

I still think Brett will go between 3-5 I'd be shocked if he doesn't go or goes after the 5th.

This guy Jayson Braddock had Colin Kaepernick as his #1 QB and got a lot of flack over it, But look where Kaepernick is now. I picked him to be the best of that draft as well and I stand by it that he is/was the better QB and so far I think he has proven it.

Brett Smith the QB out of Wyoming has more NFL style passes than any QB in the draft. That is definitely showing Smith a lot of love.

Thus why I hate Mel Kiper. I swear he must of attended CSU cos he just plain dumb!!!!

I do enjoy listening to the "Dari & Mel" show though.......was going to try and call in but usually only listening on delay. Although not getting combine invite still concerns me. At least we don't have to wait much longer.

Wish he was still in a wyo uni---- :deadhorse1:

With the media, it's a popularity contest. With the NFL GMs it's all about talent, skill, and ability - they don't pay any attention to what BS the media throws out.

While the draft has never treated UW well (I recall very few UW prospects being drafted ahead of where predicted and many legitimate draft hopefuls who were never drafted at all), I do agree that Wyoming Cowboy talk does not equate to much money or excitement on the national stage and is the primary factor of not hearing a lot of Brett speak. However, with the best QB 40 time in the draft, one of the longest broad jumps, and the lasers he was throwing at pro-day, his athletic ability can't be denied. I think there is a lot of merit to this 2 May Sports Illustrated article:

Teams head into the NFL draft with their fingers crossed, dreaming of scenarios in which they land their ideal prospects early. Rarely, if ever, does the draft play out according to script.

So what do those teams do when they fail to pluck a top prospect at a position of need? They may turn their attention to less-heralded players with comparable skillsets.

Obviously, a player taken with a top-32 pick arrives in the NFL with higher expectations than those selected on Day 3. This is the inherent risk in “waiting” on a position, as many have suggested teams do this season due to the abundance of receiver talent. Just because there are a lot of talented players out there does not mean that the value in Round 4 is equal to what is available in Round 1.

In a lot of cases, though, the later-round prospect is still worth a shot.

Early-round option: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
Backup plan: Brett Smith, QB, Wyoming

Perhaps the most obvious — and certainly the most high-profile — comparison to be made in this draft class. Anyone who has paid even an iota of attention to the 2014 draft or the 2012-13 college football seasons knows Johnny Football’s story. Smith, who turned pro after his third year at Wyoming and then was snubbed from receiving a combine invite, is far more of an unknown quantity among the general fan population.

And yet …

“Wyoming QB Brett Smith is a more controlled and better version of Johnny Manziel IMO [in my opinion],” CBS draft guru Dane Brugler tweeted in late December, after Smith declared for the draft. “Terrific addition to this QB class.”

Matt Waldman, author of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio and noted QB analyst, told ESPN Denver’s Cecil Lammey: “If you look at [Smith] and Johnny Manziel, and you took him [Smith] and put him in the Texas A&M offense, you might not have seen much of a discernible difference if at all.”

Smith threw for nearly 3,400 yards last season, on a 5-7 Wyoming team. He also rushed for 571 yards and scored 20 TDs on the ground during his three NCAA years, hence some of the love for his mobility and quickness. Smith has a quick release on his throws, plus delivers the ball with confidence.

Not everyone is quite as sold on him as a prospect (he fell outside Audibles’ top 100 ranking for the 2014 draft), and a lot of the doubt stems from mistakes he made repeatedly, both in reading defenses and from a mechanics standpoint. Whereas Manziel may be drafted to be a Week 1 rookie starter, Smith likely will be eased onto a roster as the No. 2 or 3 quarterback.

His upside, however, might not be far below Manziel’s.

The problem with Wyoming players is that even if a team is interested, they know they can probably get them really late or a FA
