Derek Cooke

Dang the more you see of DC and then just how athletic Nance is and Adams ...you start thinking damn we were even more athletic last year than I already thought we were

Of course all these guys have gotten better during the last year but still we had some freakish athletes all around on last years team.

I don't think they could have gotten there without Coach Shyatt & his staff.

How different would this years team be if Cooke had red-shirted his first year in Laramie?

+1

I agree and the fact is he recruited all of them as well. Plus he recruited Justin James , Conway and Moemeka who will all be great and he has the highest winning percentage of any basketball coach at Wyoming in the last 25 years and the 3rd best since 1940 just barely behind Brandenburg and Everett Shelton who won a national championship and Shyatt has done it with his best player missing the last 2 and a half years before this year yet we have some people that want to say he isn't doing a very good job

I wish we had a big guy on the team now with 1/2 the energy Cooke brought to games. He was so aggressive on dunks and everyone except Adams is timid they don't take it to the bucket the way Cooke or Nance did.

They had to make up for Hank, who could barely jump over a piece of paper.

Damn. It would certainly change this entire years outlook

Don't think he could have. Think he redshirted a year in JC.

You guys forget quickly that DC could barely make two trips down the court without needing a sub when he first came here.

Nance had a Hayden Dalton-esq physique.

Adams was a great athlete, but had a lot of room to grow.

I think you are greatly under-selling the development job Shyatt did on all of these guys.

Exactly right. That's why I thought the other thread was laughable when people were complaining about recruiting because they don't think the sophmores and freshman are any good.

You're right, I assumed he hadn't since he was always listed as a senior an not a rs-senior.

Yeah The only reason I knew was because after the season last year he did some workouts for football scouts and I wondered if he could play a year of football but he couldn't cuz he redshirted.

I think DC could have played 4 years of football if I'm not mistaken. You don't lose football eligibility because you play basketball? I can't exactly remember but I thought that's what I remember

You have five years of eligibility in any sport. so if you play 4 years in one sport you have 1 you could play for another. Remember that point guard for Duke who then played QB for a year for Syracuse(?). Greg Paulus maybe.
You only get a total of 5 years. Its the reason I was a bit disappointed Austin Conway redshirted, would have been fun to see him on the football field for a year if he had wanted to after he finished basketball.

You're spot on. Cooke redshirted in Year 1, played at a JC in year 2, and played at Wyoming in years 3-5. Paulus didn't redshirt and played basketball years 1-4, and was able to use that 5th year of eligibility playing a different sport.
