May has been practicing safety this week.
Serious question; has May ever played on defense before? He has good speed, no denying that, but what about tackling, coverage, and proper angles?
He was a safety in high school. Hasn't played d since high school but there is a little experience.

If May is practicing at Safety, my guess it is just in case the worst case scenario happens and there are more injuries. We probably don't go more than 2 deep right now and my assumption is this is just a precaution in case we get even thinner.

I think Wacha could certainly step up and play some safety. He has the size to really punish people. It really comes to down if he is fast enough.

I think Wacha playing safety is a bad idea. He struggled all last year in pass protection. He got routinely beat by teams deep on wheel routes and playing the flats. May can be a good safety and can add more depth to the position. My only worry is that May gets dinged up a lot.

Someone on the other board mentioned Trent Sewell as someone who is being moved to the defensive side of the ball. I asked him on Twitter and his reply was vague at best: "we shall see my friend". If that rumor is true, it would be cool to see him finally on the field. He was supposed to be a top WR recruit. I remember him breaking ankles in his highlight reels, and being very excited to have a tall, speedy, shifty receiver coming in.

I have not heard anything about Trent switching sides of the ball. Keep in mind that they will go with the kids who were recruited to play that position but in a crunch they could move May to help with a cover package. I don't think they are going to abandon the kids that already play there. The staff is just looking to provide a little depth and a back up plan if another safety goes down.

Whoever ends up back there, I just hope they can stay with their receiver and actually catch the ball when it's poorly thrown.
