Sounds like the defense is starting to get better. Smith picked off twice for TD's to give the D an early 71-22 lead b-4 the offense started to roll.

Smith is human, who would have thunk it? :P

Nah, that pick six he had against Fresno was the worst throw of his career.

I saw this one. This time the Offensive line got their collective asses kicked. Credit to the defense for making great gap assignment play shutting down the run and the secondary for playing tight, smart defense. The center position is still giving me nightmares. After last week I was feeling a little better about that spot. NOT TODAY! ! If we can play run defense like that for 1/2 of the games I'd be ecstatic. I thought Brett forced a couple bad ones but the defense had a lot to do with that. Our goal line offensive game is still looking strong though. Overall I'm happy to see the defense get one over on the offense. They do have potential. Im not really counting Friday as an official scrimmage, so I'm going to say its tied 1-1 going into the spring game next Saturday. Still I think we look head over heals better then last spring.

Is your concern about the center position have to do with the snaps or the blocking?

Mostly the snaps, I know that the offensive can block well I've seen them dominate at times. If the snaps are not clean, straight and consistent it really affects the timing and sometimes puts the Qb in an awkward position. It takes time off those precious seconds that the Qb needs to go through his progressions. Can it be fixed? I hope so, otherwise we have to depend on the JC center to come in and deliver.

Appreciate your reports mwc fan.......its a rarity to get a first-hand opinion on this stuff. Spring ball is always hard to judge....if the offense does well, people worry about the defense....and vice-versa. Hell, people got excited about how the defense performed last spring.....and they ended up being awful in the fall. Hopefully these O-Line issues cease come fall. There might not be a more important position on this team. If they can't protect Smith (or Thompson if Smith goes down), all bets are off.

No problem, its just my 2 cents based off a spectators opinion. This makes the spring game that much more interesting. How will the offense come back from a poor showing ? Can the Defense put together another inspired performance? I can't wait to see how things turn out next Saturday. It would be great if the all the fans sitting on the fence would come out and support the team for the Spring showdown. This could be a very special season for Pokes. Watching this air raid style up tempo offense is something, as is this disciplined front 7 on defense and veteran secondary.
