Crowds all around the west are bad today.

Were you there?

Yes, we were - to the very end. I wish there were 1,000 of me there, but it doesn't work that way. We came from the west and the weather & road conditions were a lot worse that way than they were in Laramie - the variable speed limit on I-80 was down to 45 & there were several accidents.

I think a big part of the lack of fans today was that Wyo Road said no unnecessary travel on most roads in SE Wyo

Especially coming over the summit. The truckers make an already perilous stretch of road a lot more dangerous in bad weather.

I rode down in the Bud bus and it didn't take much longer than normal. So, that's coming across Shirley Basin. Never saw anyone in the ditch. The question is and the answer is obvious...winning season, important game, bowl implications, cold , but not uncomfortable weather,...why would any winning coach stay?

I noticed that "no unnecessary travel" advisories don't keep Wyoming fans from going hunting, shopping, to grandma's house, etc...

"The weak may inherit the earth, but they sure can't fill a stadium."

I think DC is a good coach, and think after a few years (especially with Bret Smith) the fans will come around, but we just aren't there yet. If we can stay bowl eligible for a few years in a row and challenge for conference championships, then I think our attendance will rise. With TCU leaving and Kellen Moore graduating I think we could be favored as Conference Champs as soon as next year. We will lose 4 starters on defense and only a couple on offense, but next year we will have Schober LB back, Yarbrough, Puletasi, and Willis at DE, a bunch of WR, DBs, OL coming back....plus everyone else will be a year bigger, faster, stronger and more experienced.

I also think Laramie hosting the state HS football championships actually hurts the attendance the following week. For those that traveled to watch state, they probably don't want to travel down again, for probably the 2nd or 3rd week in a row. Agreed, attendance needs to be better. I hope we travel well to the bowl game, maybe people are saving up time and money for that?!

Maybe "no unnecessary travel" means driving for 8 hours and sitting in weather at the risk of watching a coach choose to punt down by 11 with all 3 timeouts and over 2 minutes to play. DC can't complain about attendance after he gave up in the TCU game. Wyoming fans don't want to travel to watch us give up in an otherwise exciting game where the players gave great effort. Just weeks before Denver was shutout all game but scored 15 in the last 2:44 and got the win in overtime. They did it by trying, instead of punting on 4th down. It only would have taken a couple big plays. A defender slipping in bad weather, a slippery ball on an onside kick. It was not impossible. Enough on that.

So you're saying you or people you know didn't go to the game because you're holding a grudge against the coach for a decision that was made a couple games ago?

And we didn't show up for the TCU game either.

I was there, and for the record I haven't missed a home game since the 2008 Utah game. I sat near a guy in his 70's and I saw 2 year olds running around. It was cold, and War Memorial Stadium is always 10 degrees colder than everything around it.

I can't blame anyone for not going. I didn't dress appropriately and froze my ass off.

If you want to boost attendance for these late games, start selling liquor in the stadium, and run some buses (with alcohol served) from Cheyenne, Fort Collins, Rawlins, and Casper. I'm sure quite a few fans would sign up to do that. Schedule some Home basketball games around the same time and hell, get a few other events going (comedian, bands, etc).

I do find it funny that some of you are bitching about the attendance but didn't go. Multiply that by 15,000 and you have your reason it was half full.

This. They used to run busses from several areas of the state and even ran special passenger trains from Cheyenne & Evanston for the games (and yes, they served alcohol on them too). I'll bet you would see the donor contributions go way up too.

Good idea about the buses. I have thought for a while that they should bus in students from around the states 2 yr colleges. These rowdy kids would have a blast and make alot of noise, along with getting them accustomed to UW where many of them will end up.

This is a great idea indeed. I know I would've gone for this when I went to Wicky Wack, and I wasn't even that much into football back then.
