Tyler Cox (125 pounds), McCade Ford (141), Brandon Richardson (149), L.J. Helbig (174), Shane Woods (184) and Alfonso Hernandez (197) all qualified for Nationals this weekend! Rock Springs' native Andy McCulley hopes (and deserves) to receive an at-large selection as well to make it 7!

There are 10 weight classes. The WWC receives few bids to Nationals (I believe only 3 weights received more than 1 bid). Qualifying 6-7 wrestlers out of 10 weights is a huge accomplishment. If the team wrestles well, we could certainly finish top 10. Hernandez has lost once all year (to Kent State's top ranked Kilgore). Cox has wrestled extremely well since January. Helbig is an amazing story and everyone should get to know his story. Helbig may be one of the only wrestlers in history to qualify as a heavyweight and then years later to qualify at 174.

Got to hand it to McCade Ford. Not many picked him to qualify and many were counting on Zach Zehner to fill that weight this year.

How about Leland Pfeifer yesterday? Good lord.. what a great story. Cox was pretty disappointed with third place yesterday.. he'll bounce back.

125 was by far the best weight class in the WWC. 4 out of 5 qualified for nationals!! No other weight had more than 2. Cox was the second seed and had beaten the 3rd seeded AF wrestler in the dual but had also been pinned earlier this year by the AF wrestler. Sprenkle was the 1st seed and is an all-american favorite.

Yea, I forgot to say anything about Hulett native Pfeifer. Giving up as much weight as he is and to take 3rd to clinch the team victory is pretty cool. He won't be going to Nationals, but definitely a big achievement this weekend. On a side note, Hulett combined its wrestling team with Moorcroft and dominated 2a this year. I'm not sure I like to see more 2a teams "combine forces" as fewer small town kids will be encouraged to wrestle, but I understand some of the reasons.

A few Montana high schools are doing the same thing.. just not enough kids that want to wrestle.

In case you missed it, SENDING 7 WRESTlERS!! McCulley may have been an at alarge selection but he has All-American capability. If this team streams together some wins, I'm saying 3 All-Americans (Cox, McCulley, Hernandez) and a top 10 finish! However, if everyone competes like they did at the regional, more than 3 All-Americans is in the realm of possiblity.

That said, speculation is just that. Its time to go out and prove it on the mat!
