Cowboys Ride Through the Storm and Hostile Territory on Day 1

A quick rundown of Day 1 at the Big 12s where your Wyoming Cowboys are currently in a tight team race between 4th and 8th sitting at 6th . The Cowboys and the weather showed some flair for the dramatics in Session II. Quick notes and story below:

Sefton has been eliminated

David Saenz has been eliminated, and his Wyoming career is over. Thank you for being a Cowboy.

Luke Willochell has been eliminated and will await what looms for an at-large bid

Christian Carroll has been eliminated after an uncharacteristic day. Big 12 is going to take two allocations for at-large at HWT so Carroll will also await an at-large bid. He has the resume, but I hate to wait for it after the season he has had.
Now the dramatics!

Midway through the second session an alert came over the speaker, and fans started filing out of the BOK. Nothing like a tornado warning to get the blood flowing; I believe that break helped the Cowboys. Sefton and Luke had just come off loses, and they needed the train back on the track. Coach Branch mentioned that was the first time the team had been together most of the day; they got to hang out and just be boys.

Gabe started the dramatics with an amazing win in TB in the waning seconds. He was down on the riding time and needed the takedown; Gabe was Gabe and slipped out of Edmonds and scored the takedown on the edge of the mat.

Sloan Swan made sure to keep Coach Branch’s heart at an unhealthy level in his match, which was going on right next to Gabe’s, and get his own 4-3 win. The win kept my son from crying, so it was a double win.

Riley Davis didn’t want to be left out and with time running out in SV scored his own victory 4-3 AND a NCAA qualification.
Eddie was very patient in his semi-final match with a win over Isaac Dean and will head to the finals to face Sinclair of Mizzou.

Everyone should look up OSU fans on X when it comes to the Joey Novak match. Talk about having some poopy pants. Joey was very patient and stayed within his match but why have a basic match when you can make all of Stillwater cry. Late in the third Joey had a TD locked up, but the ref’s never called it. Now I think he had a TD or Neutral Danger and Coach Branch and Coach Ashworth agreed with me based on how animated they were; the two quiet coaches were bouncing around like Coach Ford. Joey would score the SV takedown and immediately be accused of the headgear pull. He would secure the win after review, and did he ever play into the crowd with the hands down silencing them and finger pistols. Coach Branch even had some words for fans mat side. As a hockey player I live for that chirping.
Jared Hill will wrestle for 7th but more than likely his career is over based on 157 allocations. I hope we get to see his career go out on a win.
The action starts again Saturday at 10am MT with the finals at 6pm MT on ESPNU. OSU fans might be mad at Joey now, but they will be his biggest fan tomorrow when he faces Iowa State in the finals to help them with the team race.
