Cowboy Offense

So some people think we are in trouble with our WR's and losing Alexander to draft and Ghalli to D but...

QB- Brett Smith... nuff said.

RB- Kody Sutton... the kid is going to kill it, way fast and will be hard to tackle.
RB- Brandon Miller... he runs very hard always and will always be consistent

WR- Chris McNeil... He was KILLING it last year before his injury. He will be the top guy IMO
WR- Dominic Rufran... He showed a lot of good signs as a freshman last year, will be a killer this year
WR- Herron... Brett Smith said his route running has improved a lot this off season
WR- Trent Sewell... The incoming freshman is a beast! (maybe will be MWC freshman of the year)
WR- Nico Brown... I personally think he is better than Sewell, although most people think Sewell is better

Now DC and Greg Brandon are two of the brightest minds about the spread offense in the country... I think a BadASS scramblin' QB like brett smith(who is working with the mannings and drew brees this summer), a couple solid RB's and a handful of WR's who can anyday be a dangerous weapon could be one of the best O's in the MWC, and Top25 in the country.

Love the enthusiasm and positive outlook JerryMathersPoke.

Add in some other key elements, like Kankokolongaviche at RB, and we are set.

I just gotta wonder what happened in Albuquerque. ;)

I personally think we will be fine and even better skill-guy wise but it all starts and ends upfront and we have some holes to fill. Losing both tackles and Strong at guard will be challenging. We have guys like Leonard, Magnuson, Fleischmann, and Rushing who saw time last year so I don't believe it will be as bad as some people think. Also, we pulled the absolutely HUGE JC tackle C. Rains who I hope pans out quickly.

Herron HAS to step up and be that go-to gamebreaker type of player that everyone knows he is capable of. That kid when confident and playing well can play with anyone in the country but there seems to always be something lacking from him (ie confidence or dropped balls) which is frustrating.

I saw what went down in Albuquerque. Ran into a bit of a buzz-saw in the Owls, and we couldn't get ANYTHING going on the ground, except BSmith scrambling and read designs. Couple that with ZERO stops on D, including the Koof return with 10 secs left in the half after we finally got it into the endzone at cut it to 21-7. At that point in the season it was obvious BSmith was really struggling to get it downfield anymore but hopefully that is fixed now with the surgery. We have to be able to establish more of a run threat than just Smith. I think we do that this year with Smoody and BMill.

Also have to get a D that can make more stops and force more punts rather than give up scores.

For defense, we did alright in pass defense (not great, but not bad either), but it was the run that killed us last year. If we can stop the run consistently, we should do alright.
