Conway and Moemeka will both redshirt this season

Just announced by Shyatt.

Kind of shocking Conway is redshirting the way they built up his recruitment. I guess if they're OK with it we should be as well. I'm always afraid not giving playing time to someone from as far away as Moemeka is will result in a transfer.

I'm for this. I think it will benefit both of them a lot. and it will balance out some of the classes. The only down side I see to Conway redshirting is I was hoping he would play 4 years of basketball then join the football team for a year...Haha.

Our last forward from Florida who redshirted didn't work out too well... but if Moemeka can keep his grades up I won't be too worried. I'm excited for an extra year with these guys. These 2 along with Austin Mueller will be 3 solid freshmen at 3 different positions next year

Love this decision. As others have mentioned, as long as they can keep their grades up and be satisfied being support this season, this will only benefit the program. Conway will get his 1 learning from Josh and then 4 years to lead this team. I really think he will be a stud. Same with Moemeka. He reminds me a lot of DC but already ahead of where DC was when he joined. His upside could be massive with potential to be special.

This actually really works doesn't it? Having Conway redshirt balances the Trey Washington redshirt which seems to have benefitted him greatly. We need Moemeka to stay and I'd absolutely love to get one of our bigs really prepped for future. I also wonder about academics with athletes. Part of me thinks it is a great thing to redshirt to acclimate to the school side of things just coming in. It's also awesome because if these guys hang tough and get that education they can pretty much be done with most of their credits by the time they are full time players as seniors. Isn't that what Nance said he did? What are the NCAA requirements for credits while playing?

Sorry have to clarify. I was talking academics not Nance redshirting. I listened to Nance on a podcast talk about finishing up most of his academics early and having more time to hoop (something along those lines). So yeah you still have to practice and be part of the team redshirting, but it gives you that extra year for just school right? Seems like it would be beneficial to be most free from academics when your most in demand for athletics as you progress down the road. If ya can swing it because it doesn't seem easy. I thought I've heard of our athletes doing this before but whatever its kinda not talked about much.

Definitely not surprised by either redshirt. I think Conway will be a starter in a couple years but right now he's buried behind Adams, Washington, Lieberman so would kinda be a wasted year for him if he didn't redshirt. Good year for Moemeka to mature both physically and skill-wise, and as has been said, spreads out the classes a little bit more.

I'm a little surprised with Conway. I think he's better than Lieberman. It's OK, though, this will give him an extra year to learn and grow. Momeka, too. It's just like Bohl said - You trade their least productive year and will get their most productive year four years from now.

I also think he might be better than Lieberman, but with Shyatt's penchant for playing the guys that have been around longer more, I think he'd be buried just in terms of depth chart, not necessarily ability, so I'm glad he's redshirting because as you said, we'll get his best years later. I think he'd be a great player this year as well, just a deep guard line right now ahead of him.

Didn't work out well with last years redshirt, but has paid off for Herndon and I have to imagine it will for Trey as well. If a kid can't handle a redshirt year, then he really doesn't care too much and do we want him anyway? On the other hand, speaking from experience, redshirting in basketball is difficult. You get your ass kicked every day in practice, get lots of reps, become a punching bag, get yelled at a lot, and never get to play in the games. It is easy to get pissed, but if you can make it through a red shirt year everything else will seem easy and fun.

I have to be 100% honest, I am kinda surprised Trey stuck around. Its also one of the reasons I am SO excited to see him this season. He came in as a freshman with a lot of hype. Fran Fraschilla was really high on him and made some public comments on how he was going to be special and he had a rough freshman season then was asked to redshirt. Based on some of his interactions with people in the twittersphere, I thought for sure his attitude would lead him right on down I-80 out of Laramie. But he has stuck it out and earned his spot and I cannot wait to see him get his minutes. He looked really good in the exhibition game.

I really liked what I saw with Trey. A lot of energy, a lot of motor (rivals Adams', though I don't know if Trey can get the same air Adams can), and a good ball handler. Will be interesting to see his progress this year.

Trey's the type of athlete we need in this program. We've got a few players on the team that look like they don't belong athletically. Trey looks like he belongs.

Most certainly not disagreeing, I'm just curious who you view as not belonging in the program
