Classy of Linder to RUTS

I don’t think that’s Linder’s call to make as an assistant.

Texas Tech was adding two new players into the fold this game and probably wanted to see them in different personnel combinations. Like most teams this early in the season, they are still trying to figure out who can contribute where and which player combinations are the most effective. I don’t blame them one bit.

I’m sure “loser Linder” wouldn’t have discouraged it.

The coaches know the back-story. They could have easily said "Hey Jeff, this is your alma mater, should we back off?" Jeff Lindner was a tool. Every game I saw, he was pouting and pissy. I have no doubt he said "pour it on". He was, is, and will always be an asswipe. I have this picture of him in my mind sitting in a chair during a game and completely giving up on the team. Fudge him.

I guess I am in the minority here. Even if Linder was the one making the decision, I don't think he owed it to Wyoming not to run up the score.

It wasn't like they were pressing and trapping us. They were playing man-to-man half court defense and kicking our asses with it. This is big boy basketball. We got destroyed by a much better basketball team - it shows how far we have to go if we want to be anywhere near the top of the MWC or the top 25.

Keeping starters in the whole game is actively trying to ruts.

I agree. I just don't see a problem with it.

Jeff Linder and Texas Tech have no obligation to put in back ups just because they have a way better team than we do. UW forced this game onto the schedule as part of Jeff Linder's move to Texas Tech. Why wouldn't they want to wax the floor with us?

It was a frustrating game to watch. It felt like they were pouring salt into our wounds at the end of the game. But that's what they should have done. Some of these guys (probably a lot of the guys on Texas Tech) are being payed to perform on the basketball floor.

It is called sportsmanship. Kind of like when a game is hopelessly out of reach and a player takes a knee vs. scoring. Most people appreciate that because it conveys respect for your opponent and for the team. RUTS is about personal stats; not team stats. Lindner is an asswipe and I hope every TT player gets his ass kicked this year.

Even when UW forced the game onto the schedule as a requirement to let Linder sign with Texas Tech? Can you imagine if Green Bay wouldn't let Wicks come to Wyoming unless we scheduled a game in Laramie with them? Would you be upset if Wicks and Wyoming ran up the score on Green Bay in that scenario?

I guess we can just agree to disagree.

I respect your opinion. But where does it end? I coached all of my kid's sports programs. There were coaches (with all boys) that thought it was part of the game to RUTS against a co-ed team of much lesser capability (and usually age). What's the point? These are kids with egos and pride. What is the point of crushing that in a fellow-athlete? All about stats and the Michael Jordan era. I always taught my kids to win with dignity. I don't know all there is to know about the forced game at Texas Tech but that sounds more like contract/release stuff to me vs. respecting fellow athletes. Maybe it was about UW beating TT in football last year? But I do think Jeff Lindner loved it and I think he is an asswipe of the highest order. 50 point difference and the starters remain in the game? Come on, that's not good for anyone. But I respect your opinion.

I think we just have a fundamental difference in what we see as ‘sportsmanship’ and at which level of athletics those rules apply.

I do admire you for trying to teach sportsmanship at the youth level. It is easy to get caught up in the ‘win at all costs’ mentality, even in youth sports. Teaching young people a little self control can benefit them greatly in the long run.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciate your perspective.

Late to this thread. Of the 6 Texas Tech players that average the most minutes played, they had a combined 26 less minutes than their average when they tore us up in Lubbock. They had other blowouts besides us, and looking at those box scores shows their starters played significantly more minutes in those blowouts than they did against us.

Let's not compound a hard loss by playing victim, especially when it isn't even true.
