Classic quote from the head coach

The following was in the Boomerang this morning.

Yet coach Dave Christensen was quick to say in his weekly news conference on Monday that Carta-Samuels isn’t the one to blame.

“He’s doing fine. It’s the 10 other guys that we’ve got to have step up around him,” he said. “He’s making plays with his feet. He’s doing everything he can to turn every play into a positive play.

“We’ve got to take some of the pressure off of him. We’ve got to do a better job of giving (the offense) things they can do and coming up with ways to have success.”

Does anybody think that this just might be the wrong way to go about things? Seems to me that putting one player on a pedestal can only make things worse.

On one hand, it might elevate one player above 10 or 21 others, depending on how you look at it. On the other, if you watch the games - you'll see that ACS is the only one giving us a shot in most plays. Absent his feet, we lose to UNLV and lose to FAU. It could certainly be argued that the line isn't doing its job, the receivers aren't getting open and the backs aren't doing much either. Certainly ACS isn't perfect - but I tend to agree with DC's perspective. Now if he were to loop in the defense - which he clearly has not done - I would take umbrage with him.

ACS is making plays but the quotes shouldnt be about ACS it should be about dropped passes, false starts, and the whole line collapsing and giving ACS no time what-so ever

Yes, I do. But I don't think it was intended that way. I think the intentions were to say, more or less...

1. Oline needs to step it up - block better - get off the penatly bus
2. RB's need to step it up - block better - run north & south - find holes
3. WR's need to step it up - block better - run better routes - catch the MF ball - GET OPEN

I don't think DC's quote was intended to mean that ACS is playing stellar, rather that he is doing everything he can to do his job, and we need other guys to step up and do theirs, including the coaching staff. If a team is going to blitz and pressure ACS the coaches need to figure out a way to make the defense pay for that....i.e. reverses, flea flickers, half back pass. Something that will exploit the defense for being overly aggressive.
