SDPokeFan said:How about recruiting a decent backup quarterback? That would help. How about fielding a team that can still compete at the DI level when it loses a couple of players? And if you think Alabama would lose to use with three or four players out you are high. I can't believe people come on here and rationalize a FBS school losing to a middling FCS school. This is exactly why Wyoming football is in the crapper. People accept it.

Do you have a crystal ball? Are you certain this is a train-wreck of a season? We still have 9 games left. Granted these three games have been pretty dismal, but who's to say we don't get things back on track against Idaho and go into conference season firing on all cylinders.
I get really tired of the fairweather fans we have around here. A little adversity and it's time to fire the coach, clean house with the players, and start all over again. I think Christensen is building this right (at least on the offensive side of the ball) and has been thrown a few curveballs (ACS, Pittser) that threw a kink in the works. This season isn't over, and there's a lot of football yet to be played.
GO POKES!

I counted 14 times Rufran, McNeill, Claiborne and I think Norman were wide open behind the LB's, Kirk would look at them for about a second and then throw outside or throw it away or my favorite, run it out of bounds. All that is player decisions. Coaches can't stop that from happening.
Seriously, when I watch the difference between Smith and Kirk it reminds me of that old 91 movie Necessary Roughness, And the first game when they bench Blake and send in the backup Popki, The anouncer says it perfect. "These two have distinctively different throwing styles!"
Smith steps up and makes a play, Popki or Kirk runs and hides behind the ref and yells, "Blow the whistle! Blow the Whistle!"
It's the QB play last week that lost us the game. And like I said, he had every chance to make play after play but refused to split the D. That is on him and His decision making during the game. He could be getting lectured all game long by the coaches but, his actions on the field make it look like the coaches aren't making changes. The truth to that is the only change that the coaches never made was sending in the 3rd string QB.
Also, We didn't just lose a few guys. We lost KEY PLAYMAKING STARTERS. Yes, that will probably drop us down to as bad talent wise as SDSU was when they lost to Cal Poly.
As for the D being bad this year. And everyone saying it's our worst :

We went 10-2 that year gave up about 25ppg and on top of that almost lost to Idaho who at the time was FCS or 1 aa.
So, here's the numbers crunched breaking down each of our head coaches D's numbers year by year. Someone on a different post I believe Wyokie, stated he missed the days of Tillers D: I really have to laugh at that. from 91-96 in order: 29.7; 28.4; 27.4; 28.4; 24.0; 24.0 And plus, in Tillers best 10-2 season we had to win in shootouts over FCS Idaho (Score above) and Iowa St. 41-38, Fresno 42-28.
Dimel was actually the best coach with the best D numbers: 97-99 in order: 17.4; 19.5; 24.5
Koenning was our best D coord under Dimel, became HC and we have our worst D under him, not to mention the blowouts! From 00-02: 32.8; 33.4; 36.0.
Glenn brings in Breske and does mediocre for all but maybe one year. 03-08: 30.0; 24.8; 27.0; 22.0; 26.0; 27.8 (Glenn then did NO recruiting which really screwed our offense and Def for DC
Here we are, DC's years. 09-11: 27.3; 30.3; 27.7
So, for all those who yell to bring Breske back, so far the numbers are pretty well the same... And for those of you who keep talking of the glory days under Tiller just compare those numbers...
Now If "I" want somebody back, give me Koenning, he was a Great DC under Dimel. And his numbers speak for its self.
There you have it. Now, if you want to make complaints you can use real numbers.

Sonny Puletasi, Ghaali Muhammed, and Korey Jones really. But that leaves 8 other spots where players HAVE to step up. If they do, especially on the D-line, it'll make everyone else's job that much easier, because everything begins on the line.kansasCowboy said:For everyone who keeps saying this is a one man show. Stop! Smith can't hav the numbers he does if we have WR's who suck. And we have four who are at play maker status. Herron, Ruffran, McNeill, Claiborne. Each one is a threat. Each one can make a play out of a 5 yard pass and each one can get open and make the big catch way down field. The only part of the show that is has no play maker would be RB's, yet, Miller does a fine job of blocking and getting out for passes as well. Smith is a playmaker, And that is whyhe s our starting QB, You always want a playmaker behind center. But a QB can NEVER do it alone. I really think Thompson has some big potential for this year, running "Wildcat" and can still pass the ball and even get out and catch it. I think he has potential to be a threat by the end of the year.
Def. is where we lack playmakers. Sonny Puletasi has been the only one I've seen all year that has shown playmaker status. Ever since he was blowing back Texas O-line back and messing up plays, he has continued to be good. But, he can't do it alone.
