Is it just me, or is this illogical?

CFN is a joke! They don't seem to take in to account a lot of these teams have new coaching staffs. Apparently we play a new school I've never heard of before in "Dan Diego State" and even though UNM has 13 games on their schedule apparently only 12 actually count in cfn's best case and worst case scenario.

The idea of a letdown after 2011 isn't far-fetched in anyway....its happened before to the Pokes. 3-9 is stretching it though....A disappointing year by some expectations is a definite possibility, but I can't see Wyoming completely repeating that 2010 fiasco over again.

CFN is also about the same quality (or lack thereof) as Bleacher Report. In other words, it's about as reliable as the National Enquirer.

Agreed...to me a letdown this season would be 6-6, 3-9 would be an unthinkable disaster.

Exactly....I don't think the schedule is tough enough for Wyoming to repeat that disaster twice.....

This is exactly the kind of stuff DC loves to show the team.

Agreed 100%. I LOVE THIS PROJECTION!

Last year, the reason the Pokes did so well, IMO, is because they were exceeding expectations. They do not play well with a target.

I wish they were projected to be 2-10 or 1-11. More fuel for the DC fire.

I've always thought projections were a load of $^&% anyway. Who cares what the bored pundits say.

Oddly enough, CFN was one of the few if not the only site last spring to predict Wyoming as a potentially surprise team for 2011. Just saying.

This prediction is laughable, but much depends on our new assistant coaches & defensive coordinator. Better tackling and defensive schemes, and we might be battling for the top. I'll laugh at cfn every win we get above 3.

This is typical of every fan base......if its a positive prediction, they're brilliant and clearly know what they're talking about. But if its negative, they're clueless idiots. They called Wyoming's surprise season last year.......when most were calling for 3-9.

That doesn't mean they're not clueless idiots... :twocents:

Besides, UNLV is probably going to be worse next year than they were last year, same with UNM.

Really. Their "Likely Prediction" had us at 5-7. I don't see that as being a surprise team.

Just when it seemed like Wyoming was going to rebound from a disastrous 2010, and possible get back to its 2009 bowl form ... BOOM. QB Austyn Carta-Samuels texts head coach Dave Christensen that he's leaving for the JUCO route to a bigger program. If UW can quickly find a replacement this spring, with redshirt freshman Emory Miller the odds-on favorite, the rest of the pieces are there for this to potentially be the Mountain West's surprise team. Nine starters are back on defense including the entire front seven.

Not spot on, but that's much more positive than some other predictions from last year.......

Funny they would say this last year as a reason for us to be a potential surprise team, when this year we return a Frosh AA and more starters than most other MWC teams. There is no need to find a replacement, we have a stud QB. Not only that, we are getting starters back from injury....Mertens & Schober are defensive stoppers.

Love the prediction, because it is par for the course for CFN.

My problem was that their math didn't work. The analyst talked about how the trips to New Mexico and UNLV will not be daunting for the Pokes but then both were listed as projected losses. Are we supposed to be that bad or did someone not pay attention to the publication's final product?

It seems that, to be internally consistent, we should have been projected to win 4 or 5 games.

What does "realistic best case" mean? Because 7-5 could pass as realistic to me but way off best case. I think 12-0 is best case (although unlikely, I still feel if we play well we can beat anyone on our schedule next year). Their "best case" is more like an expected finish to me and 9-3 might be a "realistic best case" with us losing a couple when we are underdogs and splitting some close ones and beating the teams we should or did last year.

Its all a matter of perspective....a lot of non-Cowboy fans feel Wyoming was very fortunate to go 8-5 last season. The Weber State, Bowling Green, Air Force, and Colorado State games all went down to the wire, with UW barely prevailing. Some call it finishing, others call it lucky. (see 2009, same thing happened)

I said it a few months ago and I'll say it again...Wyoming is the biggest enigma in the MWC for next season. I could justify 9-3.....I could also justify 3-9. Most people, like me, stay neutral with something like 6-6 or 7-5. After all Wyoming, still has to make major strides defensively, returning the nations 115th ranked rushing defense in a MWC that will feature majority run-based teams. That's a red flag. You can't rule out struggles offensively either....ACS looked lights out his Freshman year too. 2010 proved to be tougher than expected.....

Like I said, all a matter of perspective. I see 7-5 next year, but could see a 2 game swing in either direction based on how the defense and offense mesh early on.....
