Carta-Samuels is still a freshman

Carta-Samuels showed today that he is still a freshman. This is the first good defense he has faced. Once he got flustered, he took some sacks where he should have thrown the ball away, and he overthrew some open receivers. Luckily he is still a freshman and we still have him for 3 years, and this will be a good learning experience for him.

I hope we improve from this and don't pack it in. Now we have to live with this loss for a week and then go to utah, and I hope we don't have another 50-0 game with utah like the past few years.

He really didn't make any bad mistakes, though. The interception was tipped by the receiver, and a lot of those sacks, the o-line just looked like a Swiss cheese. Can't really fault the QB for hat, especially when he didn't fumble the ball. The problem with throwing the ball away is that you risk having the ball knocked out of your hand when you pull your arm back - at least that didn't happen.

He actually didn't make too many mistakes. But in all fairness that INT was well overthrown and the WR was lucky to get a hand on it. Probably a pick either way.

Agreed, overthrown and probably a pick either way, leanord did a good job of trying to make a play on a bad throw (he did drop a first down later with the sun in his eyes though) To me ACS biggest mistake was throwing the ball out of bounds to a wide open Stewart, that would have given us a 7-0 lead. I thought the rushed hail mary to McNeil was a decent pass that McNeil could have come down with (made harder by pass interference). A year from now ACS arm is stronger and gets it further down field and McNeil fights harder for the ball, either way I think that is a completion next year. Hope a week off will give the offense time to regroup and get back to scoring pts, we will need it down the stretch, we are still 4-3, and still have a good chance of getting bowl eligible.

I don't disagree with much of what you said FB, but 90% of good receivers could have kept their feet in bounds and caught that pass. ACS could have and should have made a better throw though. I think AF had ACS in a hurry up mode all afternoon - even when he wasn't under pressure (and that was rare).

Sounds like I need to watch that play again, I thought he just ran to the ball, it never occured to me he could have stayed in bounds. Oh well, off week, time to recoup, get ready for Utah on Halloween!
