Capt'n Kirk

Judging from some of the accounts from practice, it sounds like the Capt'n may be playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Here's to hoping that he proves damn neart everyone in college football wrong, including we Wyoming fans (myself included) that don't think he can lead this team.

Here's to you Capt'n. Give 'em hell buddy.

As an aside, about three years ago, we met his dad in our tailgate. Helluva nice guy who was/is awfully proud of his son.

I'm hoping past deficiencies had more to do with our style of offense than anything, and that he's ready to shine in our new pro style one. Best of luck to you, Kirk!

I think this could be key. The spread showed off his weaknesses as a quarterback like athleticism and arm strength, the pro style looks to show off his skills of good timing on routes and a smart guy that can lead an offense.

I'm still trying to learn/read coach Bohl....but my ears perked up in his interview yesterday and his comments on our qb play. He is very encouraged by Cap'n and the progress he is making. Again, Bohl seems to be an optimist, so can't read into it too much at this point, but I will agree that this style offense should be much better for kirk. Heck, it can't be much worse right?? Wow it got ugly with him leading us in the spread. Can't wait for Montana.

I would never root against any of our QBs. Here's to proving everyone wrong! Give em hell!

Back in 1967 the quarterback situation was so dire that Coach Eaton took Paul Toscano, a senior defensive back, and converted him to quarterback. All he did was lead Wyoming to an undefeated season and a berth in the 1968 Sugar Bowl. Always keep the faith. Always keep the faith.

Well when you put it that way....

I guess we don't have to put up tons of points...just outscore the other team.

With a schedule that includes Michigan State, Boise State, Oregon, and Utah State, we can get into that top 4 with an undefeated record...

I dare to say even if we went undefeated..........we would not be selected..........

I'm happy to hear that Captain Kirk has been showing some good things. I want nothing more than for him to succeed and be a great leader for us this year. We've all got doubts after that Cal Poly showing, but I hope he proves us wrong!

Similar thing at Kansas in the early 60's. Coach took who he considered the best athlete (which happened to be a running back named John Hadl) and converted him to QB. Hadl earned All-American honors at QB in 1961 and later starred for the SD Chargers.

Glad to hear the Capt'n is shining so far. Thornton seems to be doing well also, but I haven't heard a peep about Young. What's going on with his game so far? His circle of people said he was tearing it up during summer practices. What happened?

I was wondering the same thing about Young. Apparently he's either telling his friends stories, or they were hyping him up without knowing. I still wish the boy well, and I will always cheer for all our Pokes, but I'm going to be cheering louder for Cap'n Kirk come the first game. I want to see him put in a position to succeed (not convinced he was his last couple of years under the old regime).

No matter how much a freshman tears it up, I doubted that we would see a freshman starting over one of our seniors. Let's be honest Bohl needs leadership on the field and that is something a senior brings more often.

When we have played Freshman at QB to start it was because we had no choice in most cases not because there was a couple seniors that got outplayed. I'm pulling for the younger QB's all of them.

Yup I'm also excited for the Capt'n, he sounds like a hell of a leader now from what Bohl and the players have said. His game is coming together and I feel a little better about that position now then I did in Spring. If Thornton keeps making gains he may be the guy next year. I kind of feel these two guys fit in Bohl's offense much better than DC's offense.

Who is coming out on the top of the list? I think someone around here said that very early. ;-)

Very early, then several more times throughout the entire summer.

You called it.

There ya go, now quit begging for kudos.

It's the ultimate feel good story for Kirk, In some aspects I hope he gets to start all year long. He clearly has a chip on his shoulder from being snubbed by previous coaching staff and fans. This is his time to shine and his time to prove that he can run an offense and good for him I hope it all works out for him and for the team.
