Interesting how successful BYU is becoming with all the changes. Embracing the change. Helps to have all this tech money and the $40 billion endowment. Their football program was essentially the best team that didn't make the CFP playoff.

The LDS Church has long recognized the value of sports teams in creating a positive public profile. It is almost as if they want BYU to be their Notre Dame.

Nailed it. It’s exactly like that. And I’m not sure Notre Dame has a history of racism.

I will date myself and remind everyone that BYU was a national power more than 40 years ago. See the link for the most famous length of court drive in NCAA history.

Same year Wyoming went to the second round of the tourney but lost by two to Illinois.

Best game I've ever been to in person was the double OT win over BYU that season in the Fieldhouse. Have hated Danny Ainge since that game as he cried about everything. Never committed a foul in his life.

The Bill Garnett - Charles Bradley era. Bill Garnett was the 4th overall player taken in the NBA draft and I think Charles Bradley was a #1 also. Brandenburg could really recruit.

The LDS church endowment is $265 billion. Bradley was late 1st round pick of the Celtics. Interesting Ainge was a second round pick by Red Auerbach and the Celtics in the same draft (1981). He would have definitely been picked sooner had he not announced he was going to pursue a baseball career before the draft. Red was schrewd, figureing that wouldn't work out he picked Ainge anyway. He played three years of baseball for the Blue Jays. The divergent career paths after that draft could be the subject of a great book. Auerbach said Ainge was "lucky". ALso helped he was white in Boston.

I asked Charles Bradley a few days after he was drafted if he already got his green shoes. He responded, “They be home!” 🤣

Bradley and Garnett 1st round picks and Chris Engler was considered for a time the King of the 10 day contract. Jackson would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick until he hurt his knee two seasons later.

Great time for Wyo basketball.

Ken Ollie was also a very good player on those teams.
