I was lazy and didn't click the link, but are they really only getting 12.5 for 15 years? That is a BARGAIN for Alberstons. Less than $1,000,000 per year - damn.

Thought the same thing.. Get what ya can I suppose.

I have thought about this for about 25 years now...War Memorial Stadium should be named as below, for all the money those sum-bitches pull out of our state, they could give UW $5,000,000 a year and it wouldn't make a fartin' difference:

Union Pacific War Memorial Stadium

If I were CJC and Thomas I'd put together a plan and pitch it. But that's just me.

Agreed. A big dollar donor for naming rights would be quite the infusion. I have yet to see a UW logo on Carhartt, where it would be most appropriate. Why hasn't the War or the AA been named, I wonder?

Oh yeah. I remember. It's about being aggressive.

McPeachy is right....Boise could have done better money wise....but this basically means they don't even have to reach into their revenue to pay for the impending stipends coming to college football. That's a big deal. I hope to see Wyoming follow suit. Albertson's headquarters are in Boise, and with this purchase they ensure their commitment to the community. Win for Boise State football, and win for their local economy.

Like I said, I'd love to see Wyoming do something similar.

jonah field @ taco john's war memorial stadium?

Taco John's? Talk about small potatoes.

Sorry. That was terrible.

If Taco John's were to sponsor anything UW athletics related, I'd be happier than King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Taco John's is the tits.

It's not as funny as much as it's a sad reality those schools are earning more potential revenue because they took Taco Bell and now Albertsons money. It's too bad no one at UW seems to care about potential revenue from corporate sponsors. Instead they just try to get more funding from CJC and Alum.

But when Wyoming Athletics are outspent straight to the 2nd tier, when Wyoming Football is trying to convince fans that FCS isn't so bad, when the scheduled basketball and football games against SDSU mean road-trips to South Dakota, at least Tom Burman can give lectures in similarly esteemed halls of academia and virtue about how Wyoming never sold out.

So there's that...

I agree, but I do wonder if they have had difficulty finding corporate sponsorship. I can understand not wanting to sell naming rights to "War Memorial" due to the history with its name, but it's a complete waste to not have corporate sponsorship for the AA. 32 years and counting of the most generic name in sports. Even if we weren't getting top dollar, it would have been incremental revenue.

If that actually was the case, the whole lot of them should be shit-canned immediately. The entire group. The whole enchilada. All of athletics administration, every single one.

One of the biggest assholes on the planet earth grew the CJC more than anyone in it's history (yes both $$ and % wise). Imagine the possibilities if someone were to shoot for the moon, and was actually a decent person!

Yes, that's an important consideration. For the sake of argument, there could still be a War Memorial at the stadium. Maybe even enhance it to include additional veterans from recent years.

I'm sure it's difficult to get a donor in Laramie. I've heard that working in higher ed athletics administration at UW is extremely tough.

i know Jonah Field pays somewhat but I like this idea of UP field, and Albertson's Stadium really isn't all that, visited in 2007, wasn't impressed.

I don't believe that there is no corporate sponsor that would jump at the advertising money that comes from having your name on some athletics in some way shape or form. I would bet money Taco Johns would be all in on something like this, I'm not convinced that it's hard I'm convinced that none of the good ole boys want it so it will never happen.

Ya never know til ya ask.

Selling naming rights is harder than one would think. Boise has been great since 2005 and this just got done.

It would take a combination of the LEARFIELD folks and athletic department to get this done. There's probably a good shot an energy company would buy it. They just wouldn't get 12+ million for it.

With Wyoming's population and TV exposure, they might get around 6 million.
