I am in the faction of Wyoming fans who think the best route for success is to bring in an already established D1 coach ( Petrino). However, I believe a coach like Brock Spack could be a good hire as well. He has high level coordinator and recruiting experience ( uw & Purdue). He also has head coach experience and success, albeit at the FCS level (Illinois st.). Another plus is that he was a member of Joe Tiller's staff during Tiller's best year.

What do you guys think?
 
His 1996 WYO defense almost had 50 sacks (46). That type of scheme would certainly help our current situation, I would assume he would/does run a spread offense as well? That would certainly help make a smoother transition for our offense.

Side note: Didn't Adam Pittser transfer to Illinois State?

Other than sacks, how was the rest of the defense though?

I think so, but he hasn't done much of anything since. Strong arm, but seems that reading the defense and accuracy are his weaknesses.
 
I believe the 1996 team was 2nd in total defense in the WAC, but the could be misleading due to some poor defenses in which we competed with. He had a top 15 nationally ranked total defense in 2003 at Purdue, and had the top ranked Big Ten defense in 2002. Other than that it looks like his defense were often in te top 3 in the Big Ten.
 
I'd consider him. Y'all know you got to have those guys who can coach and recruit. I wonder if he could put together that kind of staff.

... and for capitol building renovation, and employee compensation, and transportation infrastructure, and to pay for (yet another) K-12 system overhaul, and to plan for the next mineral market bust, and that list is before I look to see what the Governor's wish list is.

What kind of budget would be have if we sold 30,000+ tickets per football game and 14,000+ tickets for basketball games?

I remember that 1996 team. People were calling for Tiller's head all season and we did not sell out a single game--even though we were ranked in the Top 25.

One might argue our current budget reflect actual fan interest measured by fan support.
 
Your right Wyoexpat, I believe we only has two home games with over 20k attendance during the 96 season. Most WYO fans are casual and fickle. My thought to increase revenue would be to sell beer at games, but Burman is on record as saying that will never happen while he is AD. Doesn't really make sense since we already serve beer on campus at the student union ( not to mention that you can drink in the Wildcatter suites). How about the athletic department create a designated area in the stadium where you can drink and watch the game?

My other thought that could increase revenue would be a 100 dollar increase in student fee for athletics. That would give an additional 1.3 million plus that could be given for assistant coach pay.

Another idea would be a 25 dollar fee for all community college students in Wyoming, than give those students a discounted option for student guest passes to attend games( something like 5 to 10 dollars a ticket). This could give a slight bump in attendance while also adding money into the athletic budget.

Mostly I just want to add beer.
